Learn more at gore.com/products/industries About the Role: We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated Polymer Scientist to join our Core Technology team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive early-stage technical discovery to create new material capabilities which provide potential for Gore’s growth. This role may involve leveraging external research, driving early-stage technical feasibility, advanced characterizations and/or development of fundamental understanding in ionic polymer materials. This position will be located at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with work from home days possible as part of a hybrid arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.* Responsibilities: - Develop advanced characterization and analytical techniques for understanding of ionic polymer materials - Build chemistry-process-structure-property relationships in the development of new materials, and processes - Identify, research and develop investment-worthy ideas for Gore in the area of ion exchange materials - Design and execute hypothesis driven experiments while ensuring results are analyzed, summarized and documented - Foster invention and intellectual property generation through new advanced materials research and development - Develop and apply scientific understanding of ionic polymers to solve complex, practical technical problems - Closely collaborate with different teams within the early-stage discovery research community on innovative ideas through both rapid prototyping and systematic scientific approaches - Perform hands-on experimentations based on project needs
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: - Advanced degree in Polymer Physics, Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields - Demonstrated expertise and deep understanding of ion-exchange materials and their processing - Demonstrated track record on the characterization of structure and properties of polymers, especially ionic polymers - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills - Results oriented with hands-on working style - Demonstrated success or propensity to thrive in early-stage technical exploration - Ability to set project direction, build fundamental understanding, influence decisions in a complex technical environment and work both independently and as a team member - Ability to network and interface effectively with a broad range of associates spanning varied disciplines and responsibilities - Ability to travel up to 5% Desired Qualifications: - PhD in Polymer Physics, Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of research and/or industrial experience - Experience with ion transport mechanisms through membranes and ionic polymer characterizations - Experience with chemistry-process-structure-property relationships of ionic polymers, especially in energy storage or energy generation applications *Remote Working Arrangements are permitted for Associates in the continental United States (US) and Canada, with appropriate approval and compliance with Gore’s remote working policies, from the country in which they are employed.
