The HSE Field Technician oversees and manages Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives in line with company policies and regulatory standards. This role involves close collaboration with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen, as well as skilled and semi-skilled craft workers, to ensure the successful and safe completion of construction projects.
Requirements:- Monitor equipment and crew activities to ensure compliance with HSE and company policies, verifying knowledge of safety procedures and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate and coordinate with on-site staff daily, as well as address any safety issues that arise.
- Conduct incident investigations, including mitigation, trending, and analysis.
- Immediately report all accidents, incidents, and near-misses to management.
- Lead daily safety meetings, providing training on routine and project-specific tasks such as PPE requirements, CPR, First Aid/AED, Powered Industrial Truck Operator, and similar HSE topics to foster an Incident and Injury-Free culture.
- Assist in developing and implementing site-specific or client-specific HSE policies.
- Maintain a record of required crew certifications and coordinate training before expiration.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the HSE Director.
- Support & coordinate environmental culture, permits, policies, and overall compliance if applicable to the job site location.
- Air - support air emissions, permits, inspections, recordkeeping, and change management.
- Water - support storm water, permits, inspections, recordkeeping, and change management.
- Waste - support hazardous and universal wastes, permits, inspections, recordkeeping, labeling and change management.
- EPCRA - support state level emergency planning, Tier II reporting and recordkeeping.
- SPCC - support spill control and countermeasures compliance, program, recordkeeping.
- Stop any activities nonconforming or having a negative environmental impact.
Required Skills & Competencies
- General environmental regulations knowledge (Air, Water, Waste, etc.)
- Ability to prepare and support EHS regulator inspections and recordkeeping.
- General knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, ISO 14001, 45001, 9001, 5S Principals
- Strong background with incident investigations, internal reporting, mitigations, audits
- Ability to conduct detailed Risk Assessments, JHA’s/ JSA’s, mitigations, audits.
- EHS data collection and daily inspections
- Sustainability data collection and reporting
- Strong analytical skills, trending, and data analysis.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, Excel, PPT, Word, Teams, Outlook, safety management software
- Support and coordinate EHS culture, policy, programs, & standard operating procedures.
- Collect, compile, & maintain EHS training & systems records.
- Demonstrated strong ability for hands-on work and attention to detail.
Travel Requirements
- The role involves visiting various off-site client or project locations as needed.
- Expenses incurred on behalf of the company will be reimbursed in.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk.
- Prolonged periods of walking job sites.
- Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking.
- Some lifting (up to 30 lbs.). Long hours on computer keyboard.
Experience & Education Requirements
- 3 years of HSE experience
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- OSHA 10 or 30 hour
- OSHA certification of completion preferred: OSHA 510 or 511 OSH Standards / OSHA 501 Trainer Course Occupational Safety & Health Standard
