Janitorial Worker

POSITION SUMMARY

The Janitorial worker maintains a clean facility and grounds and conducts light maintenance. Responsibilities also include keeping up to date with safety equipment such as AEDs, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc. Additional tasks include disposing of trash and recycling, replacing water bubblers, ordering a variety of supplies, maintaining lawns, snow removal and running various errands.

This position reports directly to the General Parts and Service Manager at the W.D. Matthews headquarters in Auburn, Maine. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to manage a daily, weekly and monthly schedule. A high school degree or GED is required for this position. Two years of prior experience in a similar role is required. In addition, this position requires a valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

• Vacuum and mop floors, dust, wash windows, clean entryway doors of all offices
• Clean all toilets, sinks, mirrors and flooring in restrooms
• Sweep, vacuum and mop all staircases
• Vacuum and mop floors, wash tables counters and refrigerator in lunchrooms
• Dispose of trash, wash trash cans as needed and empty recycling bins
• Maintain lawns, shovel paths near building, sand and salt in the winter
• Change fluorescent light bulbs and clean plastic covers
• Order a variety of supplies from different departments
• Break down cardboard, return bottles at return center
• Replace water bubblers
• Weekly safety glasses disinfect and restock
• Monthly fire extinguisher, eyewash station, emergency lights and AED check
• Monthly battery audit
• Occasional wall washing, carpet cleaning and outdoor glass cleaning
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Skill Requirements:

• Capable of minor maintenance related tasks
• Two years of janitorial experience
• Ability to create and maintain a daily, weekly and monthly schedule
• Detail oriented and well organized
• Ability to manage many tasks at once

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Class C Driver’s License

All employees must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting, pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching and crouching. This position requires the employee to remain on their feet in an upright position for continuous periods of time and also walk around the office and shop area. This individual will need to lift objects from one level to another and be able to lift 50 pounds. This position may require the ability to exert force to move objects and equipment for a prolonged period of time. This position will require carrying objects with hands and arms and bend at the legs, waist and spine. This position will require regularly picking up and utilizing objects with fingers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This position takes place partially in a shop environment where the noise can be moderate to loud
• This position takes place in all areas of the facility; there will be interaction with all departments frequently
• May work in noisy and dusty conditions

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
