Staff Engineer, Tech Lead β Agentic AI System
Stealth-stage AI startup | Remote / Bay Area | Full-time
About Us
We're a preseed-stage startup building an AI simulation platform & infrastructure layer that brings human-context and causality to multi-agent systems. Our thesis: give rationality to AI, have humans in the most critical position of feedback loop.
You'd join a small, high-leverage founding team β product engineering, AI/backend, model serving, and product design with tasteβ reporting directly to the founder/CEO.
The Role
We need a Staff Engineer who lives and breathes the agentic AI infrastructure stack β someone who's built or deeply contributed to systems involving agent orchestration, evaluation pipelines, trace observability, and guardrail frameworks. You'll own the verification infrastructure and the agent runtime layer powering our AI simulator.
What You'll Do
- Architect and ship core verification modules: causal graph construction, failure detection, decision replay, and audit tooling
- Design eval and trace pipelines for multi-agent systems β structured logging, decision path replay, counterfactual simulation
- Build guardrail infrastructure: contradiction detection, loop detection, stale-data flagging, stability scoring
- Own the agentic runtime stack β agent orchestration, tool use, memory, and inter-agent communication
- Shape our Python SDK (decorator-pattern, < 1hr integration target)
- Set technical direction alongside a small team shipping fast
You Bring
- 6 years in software engineering, 2 years deep in AI/ML infrastructure or agentic systems
- Hands-on experience with agent frameworks and tooling (e.g., LangChain/LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar)
- Familiarity with eval/trace/observability tooling (e.g., LangSmith, Braintrust, Arize, MLflow, or equivalent)
- Experience building guardrail or verification systems for LLM/agent pipelines
- Strong Python; bonus: Go or Rust for performance-critical paths
- Comfortable with PostgreSQL, Redis, and event-driven architectures
- Startup DNA β you ship, you iterate, you own outcomes
Nice to Have
- Background in causal inference, DAG-based reasoning, or formal verification
- Experience with geospatial systems (PostGIS, H3)
- Published work or open-source contributions in agent reliability or AI safety tooling
Why Us
- Ground floor of a company building both the simulation layer and the verification layer for the agentic era
- Direct impact β your code is the product
- Small team, zero bureaucracy, founder-led engineering culture
- Competitive equity salary; seed-stage upside
