The Vermont State University Music Business and Industry (MBI) Program on the Lyndon campus, within the Department of Art, Media, and Music Industries, seeks an accomplished vocalist with strong teaching and performance experience to teach applied voice beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. Student enrollment may vary from semester to semester.

Applied voice lessons within the MBI program provide private vocal instruction to students of all experience levels. In addition to developing vocal proficiency across a wide range of contemporary styles (such as pop, R&B, gospel, country, stringer-songwriter, and related commercial music genres), the instructor is expected to introduce students to a substantial and diverse repertoire while providing practical instruction in musicianship, vocal technique, and professional performance practices. Lessons are 50 minutes in length, held throughout the semester, and open to both MBI majors and non-music majors.

Applicants are required to submit a letter of application (cover letter), a resume/curriculum vitae, and unedited video recordings demonstrating their performance abilities. Key Responsibilities:

• Provide weekly individual applied voice lessons to both music and non-music majors in accordance with MBI program guidelines and expectations.

• Teach students at all levels of experience, from beginning to advanced.

• Select and guide students through appropriate repertoire across diverse contemporary styles.

• Support program recruitment efforts and assist with student preparation for performances.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Active performer with expertise in a variety of contemporary vocal styles.

• Strong knowledge of contemporary repertoire appropriate for college-level voice instruction.

• Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in an appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• College-level teaching experience preferred. 

• Experience as a performing and/or recording artist in contemporary commercial music settings. 

• Minimum of five years of experience teaching voice to students of diverse ages and skill levels.

Salary: 
Based on credits previously taught per VSC-VSCPTF Bargaining Unit Agreement.
