Senior Systems Engineer

Overview

Byte Systems, a subsidiary of VTG, is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the sponsors engineering branch. This position requires as seasoned, Tier II/Tier II systems engineer performing a wide variety of duties including installations, debugging, maintenance, upgrades, and general support of a niche network including both Linux and Windows environments. You will be capable of applying sound engineering practices, good judgement and technical skills to achieve both short and long-term goals as established by client management. You will be a proactive self-starter requiring minimal supervision who can monitor existing infrastructure, identify and coordinate implementation changes to address problems or engineering changes with little to no impact to the end users. This is a small team of experts that are jacks-of-all trades managing a bespoke network.

What will you do?

Responsibilities:

• Analyze customer requirements and provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of varying degrees of complexity
• Perform maintenance and upgrade of the following computing environments: Windows Server 2022 and newer, Windows 11
• Must be well experienced with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and IIS
• Heavy emphasis on PowerShell scripting and configuration management through automation such as Ansible and Terraform/Packer
• Responsibility for engineering designs, development and implementation of domain policies, hardening and related procedures related to core infrastructure
• Responsible for performance and availability, providing appropriate access controls, hardware and software installation, as well as configuration and maintenance of all Windows-related technologies
• Perform Tier III analysis and troubleshooting of networked servers and workstations, LAN-based connectivity, security services and related infrastructure
• Maintain current knowledge and documentation of relevant technology
• Provide end-user support and issue resolution, as necessary form Tier I escalation
• Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization.
  
  

Do you have what it takes?

Mandatory Requirements:

• Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance, with polygraph.
• Bachelor’s Degree in related technical discipline OR equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
• Minimum of 5 years supporting mission networks
• Minimum of 7 years of current experience supporting Microsoft Windows environments, including administration (Active Directory) and the management of group policy security configurations
• Experience with troubleshooting domain connectivity and performance issues
• Experience working with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds Orion
• Significant experience with PowerShell, Ansible or Terraform/Packer for automation and scripted deployment of Windows resources, to include servers and workstations
• Window Server Update Services (WSUS) knowledge and hands on expertise across various disconnected enclave environments
• Significant experience with VMware technologies, to include recent releases of vSphere, VSAN, Horizon View Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
• Working knowledge and/or understanding of cloud computing concepts
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills needed to work in a small team dynamic and with mission partners, operational elements, other engineers and vendors
• Quick learner, detail oriented and strong ownership of work product
• Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment that might be lacking documentation or the exact steps to troubleshoot
• Strong communication and presentation skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences Desired Requirements:
• Certification or equivalent experience to include, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  
  

Pay Range: VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $175,000-$220,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
