About Us

VT Accounting Associates, LLP is an established public accounting firm in Carson City serving business and individual clients through tax, audit, review, compilation, and accounting services. Our success depends on teamwork, quality service, and lasting client relationships.

We offer a supportive office environment where employees can take ownership of their work, share ideas, and continue developing their skills. This year-round position offers hands-on engagement leadership and the opportunity to work closely with our CPAs and Partners.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Audit Accountant who can coordinate the day-to-day work of audit engagements with limited direction. The ideal candidate has served as a senior or in-charge auditor, can guide Staff Accountants, and knows how to follow an engagement from planning through completion. You will communicate directly with clients, review staff work, and prepare complete files for CPA/Manager review. The engagement Manager or Partner retains final technical and engagement approval responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with engagement planning, audit programs, staffing, and time budgets; coordinate fieldwork and client information requests.
  • Delegate assignments to Staff Accountants, answer routine questions, review workpapers, and follow through on corrections.
  • Perform complex audit procedures and prepare clear workpapers documenting supporting evidence, findings, and conclusions.
  • Reconcile trial balances and supporting schedules, investigate discrepancies, and prepare supported adjusting entries.
  • Draft financial statements and disclosures and assist with review and compilation engagements.
  • Research accounting and auditing issues and bring significant findings and supported recommendations to the CPA/Manager.
  • Track open items, follow up with clients, clear review notes, and prepare organized files for higher-level review.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and budgets, communicate project status promptly, and train and mentor staff.
  • Maintain accurate time and project records, protect confidential information, and follow Firm quality and independence procedures.
  • Provide other accounting or tax support as assigned and appropriate to experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or finance with an accounting emphasis.
  • At least three years of public accounting audit experience, including experience as a senior or in-charge auditor coordinating engagement work.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and standards applicable to review and compilation engagements.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing workpapers, performing complex audit procedures, and drafting financial statements.
  • Strong organization, communication, client service, and time management skills, with the ability to delegate and guide staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or audit software, and the ability to learn Firm systems.
  • CPA licensure or progress toward CPA licensure is preferred, but not required. Experience with CCH engagement software and Checkpoint research or audit tools is preferred.

Career Growth

Build your technical and leadership skills through continuing education, mentoring, staff training, and increasing engagement responsibility. The Firm provides a path toward Manager-level responsibilities for employees who consistently demonstrate technical competence, effective supervision, sound judgment, strong client relationships, and the ability to manage multiple engagements and budgets. Advancement depends on performance, applicable credentials, Partner approval, and Firm needs.
