Cultivation Associate
The Cultivation Associate is a critical member of the cultivation team responsible for assisting in the daily care and maintenance of cannabis plants across all growth stages. This position ensures that cultivation practices follow company protocols and regulatory compliance standards while supporting overall plant health, cleanliness, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Plant Care
- Perform a variety of plant care activities, including cloning, transplanting, pruning, defoliating, watering, trellising, and harvesting, according to established cultivation schedules
Plant Health Monitoring
- Observe and assess plants daily to identify and report any signs of pests, diseases, nutrient imbalances, or other issues that may affect plant health and growth.
Environmental Oversight
- Notify management immediately of any deviations in environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, lighting) to prevent potential impact on plant development
Compliance & SOP Adherence
- Strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and company cultivation protocols to maintain compliance with local and state cannabis regulations.
Cross-Department Functionality
- Execute tasks across multiple cultivation zones, including propagation (prop), mother plants (mom), vegetative (veg), and flowering (flower) rooms, ensuring consistency and quality across all stages.
Cleanliness & Sanitation
- Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
- Clean and sanitize equipment, tools, and cultivation spaces regularly to prevent cross-contamination and maintain plant integrity
Inventory & Record-Keeping
- Participate in regular inventory counts and accurately document plant movements, growth stages, and any anomalies in compliance with METRC (or relevant tracking systems)
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with fellow cultivation team members and supervisors to meet daily, weekly, and seasonal production goals
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
Safety Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures related to the handling of fertilizers, biological pest control agents, and other potentially hazardous materials.
- Always wear appropriate PPE and adhere to all health and safety regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Very labor-intensive role requiring excellent physical stamina
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds independently and up to 125 pounds with assistance
- Must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours), as well as regular stooping, bending, reaching, and crouching
- Comfortable working in environments with moderate to loud noise levels
- Tolerance for repetitive tasks and working in varied environmental conditions, such as humidity and temperature shifts
Working Environment
- Work is performed in a highly controlled indoor growing environment, with frequent exposure to artificial grow lighting, elevated heat levels, humidity, and agricultural inputs such as nutrients and pest control agents.
- Regular use of ladders, hand tools, and cultivation equipment is required
- Adherence to hygiene protocols (e.g., gowning procedures, glove use) is essential to ensure plant and product safety
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in horticulture, agriculture, or cannabis cultivation is highly preferred but not required
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions precisely
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with strict regulatory oversight
