POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial records for VPG’s real estate portfolio and related entities. You support property and corporate financial performance by managing day-to-day accounting for approximately 30 entities, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing clear financial reporting and analysis to leadership using Yardi and QuickBooks Online. Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by VPG Management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· This role does not have direct supervisory responsibility but may provide guidance and support to junior finance and accounting team members.
· Collaborate closely with property management, asset management, development, and construction teams to ensure financial goals and objectives are aligned at the property and entity level.
· Support the Controller/Director of Finance in implementing and reinforcing real estate accounting processes, controls, and reporting standards across all entities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management – Real Estate Entities
· Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting and financial activities for approximately 30 real estate and related entities, including property LLCs and holding companies.
· Maintain and monitor property-level and entity-level budgets, track expenses, and compare actuals to budgeted amounts, highlighting variances and trends.
· Monitor property and portfolio financial performance, providing timely and accurate financial reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
Accounting Systems: Yardi and QuickBooks Online
· Enter, review, and maintain accounting transactions in Yardi for property-level activity, including rents, charges, credits, payables, and journal entries.
· Maintain and reconcile corporate and entity-level books in QuickBooks Online, ensuring alignment between Yardi and the general ledger.
· Perform regular reconciliations between Yardi subledgers and QuickBooks Online, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
Accounting and Reporting
· Maintain accurate accounting records for each entity, including journal entries, expense allocations, accruals, intercompany activity, and reclasses.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements) by entity and consolidated as needed.
· Assist with monthly close activities for all entities, including account reconciliations, workpapers, and supporting schedules, and support lender, investor, and ownership reporting.
Property- and Portfolio-Level Cost Analysis
- Conduct cost and variance analysis at the property and entity level to identify cost-saving opportunities and support portfolio profitability.
- Review and validate vendor and contractor invoices for accuracy, coding, and adherence to contracts and budgets.
- Track job cost detail, capital expenditures, and operating expenses to ensure alignment with budgets and business plans.
Managing Accounts Payable
- Process and code vendor, contractor, and utility invoices in Yardi and/or QuickBooks Online, ensuring proper approval, job/property allocation, and adherence to company policies.
- Maintain accounts payable aging for approximately 30 entities, monitor due dates, and prepare payment runs to optimize cash flow while protecting vendor relationships.
- Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies or disputed charges, and maintain accurate vendor records and W-9 documentation to support year-end 1099 reporting.
Tax Compliance and Strategy
- Support preparation of tax workpapers and schedules for approximately 30 real estate and related entities and coordinate with external tax advisors on required filings.
- Track and maintain entity-level information (ownership changes, capital contributions and distributions, intercompany activity) to support accurate tax and partnership reporting.
- Assist in identifying deductible expenses, capitalizable costs, timing differences, and changes in relevant tax rules to support compliant and tax-efficient outcomes.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of real estate and property management accounting, including multi-entity structures and property-level reporting.
- Proficiency in Yardi and QuickBooks Online, with solid knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls in a multi-entity environment.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines across approximately 30 entities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate, property management, or multi-entity environments.
- Experience with Yardi, QuickBooks Online, and supporting audits, lender reporting, and tax preparation preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk within office and occasional property or jobsite environments, and travel periodically between offices or properties as required.

· Working Hours: Standard schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with lunch break from 12- 1, with flexibility to adjust hours with COO approval as needed to support month-end close, audits, or key portfolio deadlines.
Pay: $62,397.95 - $75,145.91 per year
