Job Summary:
A commercial driver operates large vehicles, such as trucks, buses, or vans, to transport goods or passengers safely and efficiently. The role requires compliance with federal and state transportation laws, attention to safety, and professional interaction with clients and dispatchers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Operation: Safely operate commercial vehicles including tractor-trailers, box trucks, buses, or delivery vans.
- Cargo Management: Load, secure, and unload freight or passengers according to safety standards.
- Route Planning: Plan trips efficiently using maps, GPS, and traffic updates to meet delivery schedules.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections; report mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel usage, and deliveries in compliance with regulations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, traffic laws, and safety protocols.
- Customer Service: Communicate professionally with clients, passengers, and company staff.
- Problem Solving: Address delays, road hazards, or mechanical problems promptly and safely.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Clean driving record and knowledge of road safety regulations
- Physical ability to handle cargo and long hours of driving
- Time management and route planning skills
- Good communication and problem-solving abilities
Work Environment:
- Driving long distances, sometimes overnight or across state lines
- Exposure to different weather conditions
- Sitting for extended periods, handling cargo, and working independently
