Job Summary
The Business Development Representative (BDR) proactively solicits new business opportunities while cultivating and maintaining relationships with current and prospective customers. The BDR is accountable for surpassing assigned revenue goals, quarterly quotas and performance metrics.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Execute daily activities to attain revenue and profitability objectives.
- Strategically cultivate a pipeline of qualified leads through proactive cold calling, effective networking, and targeted referrals.
- Utilize CRM software to maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities including calls, presentations, follow up activities, and won business.
- Cultivate and nurture robust and long lasting relationships with both new and existing customers.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of the various VPL service offerings.
- Provide clients with strategic insight, industry updates and news, and knowledge related to their logistics requirements.
- Effectively manage the clients you secure while seamlessly introducing new customers to your portfolio.
- Attend various industry events and trade shows or conferences to meet prospective customers and represent the VPL brand.
- Weekly cold calls and outbound outreach

- Accurate and complete recording keeping of sales activity in CRM

- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Communications or related field, preferred.
- Equivalent progressive and comprehensive work experience in similar roles considered.
- 3 years of sales experience required.
- 3 years of transportation/logistics experience with knowledge and understanding of market principles and dynamics, preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
- Knowledge of all transportation modes; flatbed, drayage, expedited, and cross-border preferred.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong cold-calling and prospecting skills with a proven ability to generate leads and build a sales pipeline.
- Ability to qualify leads and set appointments with appropriate decision-makers.
- Comfortable presenting to decision-makers and various stakeholders.
- Strong listening and negotiation skills.
- Resilient and able to handle rejection in a professional manner.
- Familiarity with transportation services, logistics, freight forwarding and supply chain.
- Outstanding organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Team Player and proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse team members.
- Excellent time management skills, consistently meeting strict deadlines.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to adjust tasks and priorities as needed.
- Self-motivated, goal oriented and thrive in a fast-paced working environment.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to speak easily and communicate in writing and on a telephone for varying lengths of time and in random order.
- On demand travel based upon job activity including prospect/client visits, attendance of trade shows, and an ability to commute to office locations independently including Waukegan and Chicago as requested.
