What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern: Vehicle Electrical Systems Design - Asphalt (Fall 2024) position at Volvo Group?
Work alongside our Senior Electrical Engineer and in cooperation with a multi-disciplined engineering team to develop electrical solutions for our fleet of asphalt compactors. Our team is responsible for the vehicle end-to-end process, including the conceptual design, prototyping, virtual and physical verification, and product launch. As part of a small team with broad responsibilities working in a fast and flexible method, there is substantial opportunity for learning and growth.
Volvo is beginning production of our first electric compactors at the beginning of 2024. Our work for the rest of the year will entail the refinement and optimization of this product and the development of additional models.
You will work directly in the team as if you were a full-time engineer. At times you will support work that others are doing and at other times you will have the opportunity to take the lead on the work that is most interesting to you. We work in an agile product development process called scrum where we plan and execute our work in 3-week intervals called sprints.
Housing stipends may be provided for students from outside our local area. We facilitate opportunities for mentorships with some of our top business leaders as well as job shadowing experiences with other teams at Volvo. The working arrangement is primarily in-person, but we are open to some flexible working hours and locations as well. We set our schedule each sprint based on the specific project tasks we have planned for that 3-week interval.
If you have an electrical background, are excited to leverage your energy and skillset to help move toward a more sustainable future, and are willing to grow and learn, we would love to talk with you about opportunities at Volvo Construction Equipment in Shippensburg PA.
