Job Description
POSITION GOAL
To supervise the day to day operations of the custodial department; pertaining to custodial assignments and direct activities involved in custodial related duties to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment of all district sites.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. *Represent Volusia County School Board and the Department with a positive and professional service-oriented demeanor.
2. *Assure the safety of children comes first.
3. *Plan and schedule maintenance and custodial activities in conjunction with student schedules when appropriate.
4. *Analyze departmental needs and implement appropriate action.
5. *Supervise personnel as assigned, including training, performance appraisal, and assisting with selection.
6. *Train head custodians and assist in training custodial personnel on district cleaning standards, policies, and procedures.
7. *Create and present effective training programs for both large and small groups.
8. *Conduct site evaluations and address custodial concerns with head custodians and site administrators.
9. *Consult with site administrators on custodial procedures and cleaning standards.
10. *Schedule and coordinate contractors.
11. *Abide by all security procedures.
12. *Responsible for equipment, tools, and repair parts, including submitting purchase orders.
13. *Report any equipment misuse and/or damage, dangerous or hazardous situations related to work orders, equipment or vehicles to supervisor.
14. *Abide by and monitor safe working practices/standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupation Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
15. *Coordinate and work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency, productivity, and quality.
16. *Prepare all required documents and reports.
17. *Participate in the activities of Maintenance and Operations’ Emergency Response Team as designated
18. *Respond to after-hours concerns and requests.
19. *Complete accident investigation/reports.
20. *Complete workers compensation reports and investigations.
21. *Perform other related duties as assigned by the Custodial Coordinator, Maintenance and Operations.

Required Qualifications/Certifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED SKILLS
REPORTS TO Custodial Coordinator, Maintenance and Operations
SUPERVISES Support staff as assigned
- High School Diploma/ G.E.D and three (3) years of related supervisory experience. Associates Degree or formal training in FSPMA Certified Master Custodian preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience in large scale housekeeping or custodial services, required.
- Available after working hours (on call) for emergencies, disaster response and scheduled shift work
- Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and agree to secure a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required
- Must be able to operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Proficient in Windows based computer systems, programs, and applications e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, report writing and data bases as it pertains to the related field
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance systems for work order tracking, reporting, and inventory control
- Knowledge of maintenance trades as they relate to school facilities and operations.
- Technical and managerial problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and critical thinking skills
- Strong written and verbal skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to analyze technical and manpower needs and develop priorities for safety, cost reduction, and department changes.
- Ability to work closely with the work force, professional staff and school community in carrying out responsibilities.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow written documentation/diagrams for all field relevant products and/or equipment, and recommended uses of job related chemicals
- Ability to participate in all types of emergencies/disasters
- Ability to make sound workable decisions, render judgments, and take action on decisions made, and assume responsibility for those outcomes of self and assigned staff in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a leadership team with your assigned staff and other departments
- Ability to travel to various work locations
