Job Description
POSITION GOAL:
To assist the professional instructional staff in providing supervision and educational support services that are an integral part of teaching
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. *Work with students in small group settings relative to classroom assignments or activities in a professional manner as directed by the teacher.
2. *Only after successful completion of the substitute teacher training course (STAR) and under the direction and planning of the teacher, provide supervision of students in various settings to include community-based instruction,
3. *Assist the teacher in the delivery of instructions as requested.
4. *Effectively utilize computer software (i.e. e-mail and word processing) and educational programs as required to document and report on the program.
5. *Accurately assess student performance requiring objective evaluation as assigned.
6. *Keep in confidence personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
7. *Assist in demonstrating required math, grammar, and reading skills to help students.
8. *Assist in the management of appropriate student behavior to maintain an environment conducive to learning, including crisis intervention as needed.
9. *Assist in the physical management and positioning of students, as directed by the teacher or other related professional(s).
10. *Abide by all procedures and policies of the school board, state rules and laws, and other governing laws and rules.

- a) *Perform preventive case management as necessary,
- b) *Assist with monitoring routines regarding attendance and/or all required documentation.
- c) *Provide general medication administration only after attending the required generalized training as assigned.
- d) *Provide assistance to students in activities of daily living, self-care, self-management, and ensure physical safety during regular intervals as directed by the teacher,
- e) Conduct parental involvement activities as assigned,
- f) Assist in the provision of grooming, toileting, and hygiene activities and/or instructions to students as assigned,
- g) Assist in eating and feeding activities as assigned,
- h) *Provide one-on-one tutoring for eligible students.
- a) Accompany students to and from campus areas outside the classroom as required, such as i. the area where medical needs are performed and when assigned, ii. with the teacher and students on approved field trips, iii. with students to courses in other locations on campus as required, iv. with students to the cafeteria for breakfast and/ or lunch participation, v. And escort transported students to and from the classroom upon arrival and dismissal - when employee’s scheduled work hours allow.
- b) Assisting in the monitoring of students during recesses or special activities,
- c) Use positive interpersonal communication skills and nurturing encouragement to students,
- d) *Assist in the displaying of students’ work or accomplishments,
- e) *Assist in the organization, distribution, reproduction, and management of instructional and/or assessment materials,
- f) *Assist in distributing to and collecting information from parents about the school, as directed,
- g) *Update charts associated with the classroom operation, as assigned.

To take the ParaPro test, please contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS) directly to schedule an appointment at one of their designated test centers. You can find more information and register at Para Pro Test. The test fee is $85.00.
REQUIRED SKILLS:

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
For All Paraprofessional III:
- Holds a High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent and one of the following:
- Holds an Associate’s (or higher) degree; or
- Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 hours); or
- Received a passing grade on the Para Pro Assessment
- Successful completion of the VCS’ substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of the date of hire

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to understand child development concepts

- Demonstrates ability to understand the unique challenges of children and families in need
- Strong technical/computer and/or typing skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and publications as assigned
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Technical skills to assist in classroom instruction and program documentation under teacher supervision is preferred
- Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students and student records as stated in the Family Right to Privacy Act (FRPA)
- Demonstrates ability to project a positive image regarding the program, the students enrolled in the program, and the school
- Demonstrates ability to follow directions and assist in meeting the needs of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student

- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with school staff, professional staff, school community, outside agencies and families
