JOB SUMMARY

The Child Watch worker, under the direction of the Child & Family Specialist, is responsible for watching the children, ages 12 and under, of mothers residing in the residential center while mothers participate in program activities. This individual plans age-appropriate activities for children that promote physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. This individual ensures all equipment and toys are cleaned, organized and in good working order to ensure safety of children. 

As the residential center opens, the Child Watch worker must be flexible and support the team in successful launch and scaling of services. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise children's activities and playtime to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. 
  • Attend to children's basic needs, including feeding, changing diapers, and assisting with hygiene.
  • Comfort and reassure children, especially during times of distress. 
  • Monitor children's behavior and intervene in conflicts.
  • Ensure a clean and organized environment.
  • Assist with housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning and organizing. 
  • Communicate regularly with mothers and/or other staff about children's progress, behavior, and any concerns. 
  • Ensure staff-to-child ratio does not exceed 1:3 for infants (18 months and younger) and 1:6 for toddlers and children.
  • Maintain accurate records of children's attendance, activities, and any relevant information. 
  • Utilize concurrent documentation and record accurate information in the EHR of each person served within 1 business day.
  • Prepare reports or documentation as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all policies, procedures and practices of VOASELA are met.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-essential)

  • Create and maintain a recovery-oriented environment based on the principles of Therapeutic Communities. 
  • Adhere to the designated dress code as stipulated for the specific role.
  • VOASELA maintains an alcohol and drug-free workplace, with a workforce free of substance use.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Novice skills within Electronic Health Systems.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a respectful manner, remaining flexible, proactive, and task oriented. 
  • Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability, and prioritizing skills.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation (not all convictions will exclude candidates from being hired).
  • Must pass drug screening tests as required by agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Must complete tuberculosis (TB) screening prior to employment and be free from Tuberculosis (TB) in a communicable state via skin testing (or chest exam if recommended by physician).
  • Must be able to maintain First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and seizure assessment training.
  • This position provides services in office. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Adequate strength, endurance and coordination to meet the physical demands of such responsibilities such as supervising children.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a residential environment while standing and/or walking. Dexterity is used while performing play activities with children.
