What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania?
General Functions:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the physical upkeep of multiple Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania properties located in and around the Wilkes-Barre area. The employee will be available around the clock in case of emergency including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. The employee will maintain safe, orderly and stable facilities which will allow program staff, volunteers, clients, and residents to live and work in secure environments to fulfill their day-to-day activities and responsibilities.
Scope of Duties:
1. Demonstrate courtesy, knowledge and professionalism while interacting with co-workers, clients, guests, and members of the public as a liaison for VOAPA.
2. Have basic knowledge and experience in the following areas: masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
3. Maintain safe and secure facilities at all times. Maintain the physical integrity of all properties and building grounds. Inspect each property weekly and complete any essential repairs promptly.
4. Ensure compliance amongst VOAPA employees and residents with maintenance policies and procedures in regard to the physical upkeep of the properties they occupy.
5. Complete maintenance requests as assigned. Preform preventative maintenance procedures on building equipment (HVAC systems) on a routine basis. Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
6. Provide general seasonal, custodial and/or janitorial maintenance and grounds services in order to maintain the physical appearance and safety of properties such as lawn care and snow removal.
7. Oversee and provide instruction on the proper storage, use, labeling and record keeping of chemicals used at all properties.
8. Oversee and assist in the renovation and/or remodeling of buildings in conjunction with the Co-Director of Wilkes Barre Programs.
9. Attend and participate in staff meetings and follow directives accurately.
10. In the event of an emergency the employee will contact the Co-Director of Wilkes Barre Programs.
11. Preform other duties as assigned.
12. Clock in and out daily and ensure proper working hours are submitted to supervisor.
ADA Essential Functions:
1. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, crawl, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and smell.
2. Regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs.; exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
3. Ability to sit or stand for periods of one hour or more.
4. Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
5. Ability to identify and/or distinguish colors.
6. Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while remain fixed on a given point.
7. Ability to work in all types of weather (sun, rain, sleet, snow, wind) and at variable noise levels.
Credentials/Abilities:
The employee in this position is preferred to possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Maintenance experience and possession of a valid driver’s license are required. Criminal background and driver’s history check will be completed. The employee must possess a strong ability to make immediate decisions when faced with crisis or unusual situations. The employee must have working knowledge of computer software, specifically Microsoft Office; including Outlook, Excel, and Word, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.
