Position Title: Clinical Supervisor – School-Based Services

 

Reports To: Program Manager – School-Based Services

 

Direct Reports: School-Based Clinicians; Interns (as assigned)

 

Classification: Exempt; Salary; Full-Time

 

 

Position Summary:

 

The Clinical Supervisor – School-Based Services provides clinical leadership and supervision for VOA Alaska’s behavioral health services delivered in school settings. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, and clinically sound services for students and families while supporting and developing school-based clinicians.

 

The Clinical Supervisor works in close partnership with the Program Manager to support day-to-day clinical operations, staff readiness, service coordination within school environments, and consistent implementation of VOA Alaska’s model of care. This role serves as a key clinical bridge between school-based staff, program leadership, and external partners, including Anchorage School District and psychiatric providers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for School-Based Services to ensure students and families receive timely, appropriate, and effective behavioral health care in school settings.
  • Directly supervise school-based clinicians and assigned interns, providing regular clinical supervision, coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation to support service quality and professional growth.
  • Ensure clinical services adhere to VOA Alaska policies and procedures and meet regulatory, payer, and accrediting standards, including Medicaid, CARF, Division of Behavioral Health, Division of Public Health, and school district requirements.
  • Monitor the clinical quality, appropriateness, and effectiveness of assessments, treatment planning, individual and group services, crisis interventions, and case management delivered in school settings.
  • Review and approve clinical documentation, treatment plans, and treatment plan reviews for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with clinical and payer standards.
  • Coordinate clinical intakes, participate in placement decisions, and assign clients to clinician caseloads in collaboration with the Program Manager and other clinical leaders.
  • Carry a limited caseload (up to approximately 10 clients) and complete assessments as needed to maintain clinical connection to service delivery and emerging needs within the school-based population.
  • Support daily clinical coverage and continuity of care by coordinating staffing adjustments when changes occur and providing temporary coverage when necessary due to vacancies or absences.
  • Develop, implement, and reinforce training and onboarding for new and existing clinical staff, including orientation to school-based workflows, documentation expectations, and integrated behavioral health practices.
  • Support staff progress toward required credentials and certifications, including Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) requirements, in alignment with agency timelines and expectations.
  • Coordinate psychiatric services and communication with contracted psychiatric providers to support integrated care for students receiving medication and behavioral health services.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager, Consulting Psychiatrist, Director of Training, and other leaders to support consistent implementation of VOA Alaska’s clinical philosophy, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices, and integrated models of care in school environments.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Anchorage School District staff, school administrators, and community partners, supporting collaboration, referral pathways, and coordinated service delivery.

  • Trauma-informed practice – Models and reinforces trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate clinical care.
  • Coordination and collaboration – Works effectively with program leadership, psychiatric providers, schools, and internal departments to support integrated care.
  • Clinical judgment – Applies sound clinical reasoning to assessments, treatment planning, crisis response, and service coordination.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Education – Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related behavioral health field is required.
  • Licensure – Clinical licensure preferred, ability to obtain clinical supervisor licensure within 90 days of hire is required.
  • Experience – At least five years of counseling experience, including a minimum of one year providing mental health services to children or adolescents; prior supervisory or lead experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and other requirements –
  • Familiarity with school-based or community-based behavioral health services.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and integrated behavioral health models.
  • Ability to meet all background check and credentialing requirements.
  • Ability to work a schedule that supports school-based services, which may include days, evenings, or occasional weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Work from home/In office/Schools combinationIncludes structured workdays with consistent days and times. Must be available/reachable and hooked in to the VOAAK phone/ IT system and must be reachable via telephone and email during available work hours. Must have a private work area for conducting telehealth services. 
     
  • Remote work: This position will include various off-site locations, work in the community. Ability to work independently is vital to the success of this position while managing workflow and own client contact/scheduling.
     
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirement includes close vision.
