Position Title: Peer Recovery Coach

Location: Twilight Drive Recovery House: Scarborough, Maine

Pay: $24.00/hour

Shift: Flexible, M-F

Position Overview: A Peer Recovery Coach will serve as personal guide and mentor for people seeking all paths of recovery from SUD/OUD, helping them remove barriers and navigate systems to meet their treatment, wellness, and recovery support goals. The right individual must be highly motivated, be a facilitative leader, and have excellent communications, mobilization, social media and community relations skills. The Peer Recovery Coach must have an appreciation and affinity for those people and families in addiction recovery and have either lived experiences or a strong understanding of the recovery community.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Meet regularly with individuals in recovery to support their recovery needs and goals, including to develop and implement a wellness plan.

2. Provide non-clinical, peer support that helps people stay engaged in recovery and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

3. Focus on issues such as building a new community of friends, finding housing, and employment.

4. Assist individuals to access needed services and resources, and to navigate health care and social service systems.

5. Help address barriers to independence and recovery.

6. Transport individuals in the Agency vehicle if applicable.

7. Ensure compliance with all data tracking and reporting.

8. Participate in required training and meetings.

9. Submit required program reports and timekeeping in a timely manner.

10. Conduct outreach/education about recovery coach program

11. Adhere to the following guiding principles of recovery coaching: (1) Recovery coaching is a strengths-based approach to recovery (rather than focusing on the pathology of substance use disorder); (2) Recovery coaches support all paths to recovery; (3) Recovery coaches engage people in a peer-to-peer relationship that is participatory and empowering; and, (4) Recovery coaches provide support services that are person-centered and include education, support, and motivation.

12. Facilitate SMART recovery groups.

13. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

1. Personal characteristics of maturity and professionalism with a sincere desire to work with recovering individuals and the recovery community.

2. Ability to attend and complete a 4-day CCAR Recovery Coach Academy and other training courses as required.

3. Proficient with the Rec-Cap Behave system and analyzing corresponding data.

4. Highly self-motivated; ability to work independently from office or community.

5. Appreciation and affinity for those people and families in addiction recovery and must have either lived experiences or a strong understanding of the recovery community.

6. Understanding of harm reduction theory, techniques, and practices within community services and systems.

7. Warm, personable and approachable. Ability to work with individuals overcoming substance abuse, mental health issues, and/or homelessness, and to build and maintain strong working relationships with diverse partner organizations.

8. The ability to complete multiple tasks, while overseeing volunteers in a variety of settings.

9. Strong communications skills: ability to listen well, speak and write effectively.

10. Ability to manage and disseminate information effectively.

11. Team player with high professional standards, positive attitude and flexibility.

12. Valid Maine driver’s license with a safe driving record and reliable transportation required.

13. Due to the nature of this position, it is recommended that the coach be a person in long-term recovery or have strong demonstrated personal experience with the recovery process.

Working Conditions: This is an office-based position involving regular interaction with individuals who may have mental health diagnoses and/or substance use disorders. You must have access to a personal vehicle and be able to travel to various locations as needed to fulfill job responsibilities. Regular physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting to 25 lbs. This role requires frequent use of hands for typing and handling office equipment, as well as effective communication in person, by phone, and via video conferencing.
