Volunteers of America Eastern Washington
Spokane, WA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/7/2026 CLOSED ON 3/7/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Shelter Supervisor - Crosswalk position at Volunteers of America Eastern Washington?

Description

We’re growing at Crosswalk!

In September 2025, Volunteers of America (VOA) proudly opened the new Crosswalk Youth Shelter—a modern, purpose-built facility designed to expand and enhance services for youth ages 13–17 who are experiencing homelessness or family crisis. This beautiful new space allows us to increase capacity, provide on-site education and vocational programming, and strengthen pathways to stability and independence for Spokane’s youth.

We’re seeking a Crosswalk Shelter Supervisor to join our leadership team and help shape this exciting next chapter. This full-time, hourly position is based in Spokane, WA, with a schedule primarily in the evenings and at least one weekend shift per week. Because Crosswalk operates 24/7, flexibility is essential—this role includes carrying the on-call phone at least one week per quarter and providing shift coverage or support during that time to ensure consistent, high-quality care for the youth we serve.

About Us

At Volunteers of America (VOA) Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho, we serve people and communities with a spirit of hope and compassion.

We are a mission-driven behavioral health organization delivering housing-first, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented services to individuals and families impacted by homelessness, poverty, and behavioral health challenges.

Our programs span a continuum of care—including permanent supportive housing, youth and family services, low-barrier shelters, and medical respite programs—all grounded in our belief that every person deserves safety, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive.

Position Summary

The Crosswalk Shelter Supervisor provides on-site leadership and operational oversight for Spokane’s only 24/7 low-barrier youth shelter, ensuring compliance with DCYF and WAC requirements while fostering a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for youth ages 13–17.

This position supervises shelter staff, coordinates daily operations, and promotes a team-based approach centered on consistency, accountability, and growth. The Supervisor also plays a key role in maintaining documentation, data reporting, and grant compliance—all while modeling the compassion and professionalism that define VOA’s approach to care.

  • Supervise, train, and support Crosswalk staff to ensure high-quality, youth-centered services.

  • Lead evening operations, oversee staffing coverage, safety, and shift transitions.

  • Maintain compliance with WAC and DCYF licensing standards.

  • Review intakes within 24–48 hours and ensure safety protocols and mandatory reporting requirements are met.

  • Model and train staff in trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and positive youth development practices.

  • Ensure accurate documentation, data entry, and reporting for contract and grant compliance.

  • Support internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, agencies, and community partners.

  • Promote a team culture of empathy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements
