Volunteers of America Eastern Washington is actively hiring multiple full-time team members for our Medical Respite Program at Hope House—a unique, healing-centered program that provides short-term care for individuals experiencing homelessness after a hospital stay.
We are currently filling overnight and variable shifts, with weekend and weekday opportunities available. If you're compassionate, dependable, and ready to be part of something meaningful, we want to hear from you.
About the Role: Medical Respite Support Staff
As a member of our care team, you'll provide critical support to individuals recovering from medical challenges, in a setting that fosters healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This is not a clinical role—it’s a community-based position grounded in empathy, connection, and trauma-informed care.
Shifts Available
- Full-time roles with a focus on overnight shifts (eligible for shift differential pay), 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM and daytime shifts, 6am-2pm. Weekend availability strongly preferred (Saturday & Sunday)
- Additional shifts may be available during the week based on program needs
- Flexible scheduling with opportunities for extra hours
What You’ll Do
- Provide care and monitoring for individuals recovering from illness or crisis
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive healing environment
- Conduct participant intakes and support orientation to the program
- Respond to behavioral and medical emergencies with empathy and professionalism
- Maintain communication logs, documentation, and shift handovers
- Assist with resource navigation and referrals
- Support consistency, community, and care across all shifts
Requirements
Required:
- No medical background required—just strong communication, compassion, and a calm presence
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
- Eligible to apply for Agency Affiliated Counselor credential within 30 days of hire
- Ability to work independently, especially on overnight shifts
- Clean background check and driving record
Preferred:
- Experience working with individuals facing homelessness, behavioral health needs, or trauma
- Lived experience or Peer Support Certification (or interest in pursuing it)
- Familiarity with behavioral health or social service programs
