Employment Terms: This is 35 hours/week full-time, non-exempt position.

Summary: The Youth Program Coordinator (Coordinator) will be responsible for implementing the Grow Binghamton youth employment program in coordination with VINES’ Youth and Urban Farm Manager (Manager) and Urban Farm Coordinator. The coordinator will help coordinate and deliver educational programming as well as oversee youth employees’ tasks at the Binghamton Urban Farm and the peri-urban Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) Farm. The Coordinator will help direct the work Empire State Service Corps (ESSC) members, interns, volunteers and more who will assist in program/growing operations. The person in this role should be excited to work with a diverse group of teenagers and be eager to give them opportunities to realize their capabilities and grow their leadership skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assists with the Manager the planning and implementation of the Grow Binghamton (GB) youth employment program, including but not limited recruiting, hiring, and supervising youth employees, developing and delivering educational curriculum, planning the program schedule, trainings and activities, & recruiting outside educators for the program.

· Ensure Grow Binghamton provides a safe and supportive environment for a diverse set of youth employees along with high quality programming that teaches youth about food production, nutrition, cooking, leadership, teamwork, communication and skills to prepare them for success in their future.

· Assists the Manager the development and implementation of the GB disciplinary policy.

· Supervises GB youth in their work with other VINES programmatic activities, such as community garden site work, Build a Garden bed and bag construction, Community Compost Management, and Farm Share distribution staffing.

· Supports the leadership development of youth within VINES, developing structures to support this growth, and recruiting youth participation in VINES volunteer and organizational events.

· Keeps inventory of and purchases food for Grow Binghamton youth, first aid equipment, and supplies as needed.

· Assists the Manager with developing and implementing an annual plan for engaging with GB Alumni.

· Works alongside other members of the farming team to complete tasks related to cultivation, weed management, pest management, harvesting and site maintenance.

· Oversees volunteer workdays that allow community members to be engaged at the farms.

· Participates in regular team meetings with Urban Farm and Youth Program Coordinators, Youth leaderships, ESSC members, and interns.

· Ensures GB youth complete biweekly timesheets.

· Assists the Manager and Communications and Outreach Coordinator with conducting neighborhood

outreach and engaging with the community surrounding the Urban Farm.

· Participates in professional development and other learning opportunities to build their knowledge of sustainable growing practices and youth development.

· Contribute to social media presence and website updates on a weekly basis.

· Establish connections in the community with businesses and local agencies to support and deliver ongoing quality programming.

· Maintain administrative thoroughness by updating and maintaining documentation on all Program procedures, policies, and internal filing systems.

· Represent VINES professionally to the public, community groups, and local agencies.

· Report quantitative and qualitative data on a monthly basis to the VINES Board of Directors

· Manage other special projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

· Strong leadership and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize tasks for self and others.

· Experience working with teen-aged young people preferred. Ability to relate easily to middle and high school aged youth and support their growth.

· Interest in organic agriculture, nutrition, sustainability, social justice, and community food systems.

· Ability to actively work with volunteers and program participants from diverse populations.

· Demonstrated commitment to mission of VINES and food justice.

· Sense of humor and ability to manage a busy environment.

· Proficiency using Google Workspace (Chrome, Sheets, Docs, Forms), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher), social media, website content management, and email platforms.

· Flexibility in handling a diversity of tasks.

· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work both independently and aspart of a team.

· Ability to work as a team with community members, community organizations, volunteers from a variety of ages, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds; especially low-income populations.

· Connection or familiarity with the Binghamton community or similar demographic.

· Ability/willingness to participate in physical labor in all weather conditions.

· Commitment to excellence, efficient work practices, and pride in a job well done.

Job Requirements

· Valid driver's license and clean driving record

· Experience driving large vehicles or comfort in learning how to.

· Able to work occasional weekends and evenings.

· Must be physically fit, able to lift 40 pounds, and willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
