Summary: TheCommunity Compost Coordinator (Coordinator) will lead VINES’ community compost efforts, under the guidance of the Community Garden Manager, by bolstering the existing composting efforts at community gardens and developing a larger scale, in-vessel composting system at the Binghamton Urban Farm (BUF). The Coordinator will work closely with the Youth program staff and Grow Binghamton youth employees to engage youth in the development and maintenance of the Community Compost systems. The person in this role should enjoy working with a diverse set of people toward shared goals around sustainability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Oversee the planning for and implementation of a cohesive and sustainable Community Compost program that has a three-prong approach: 1) providing education to promote home composting, 2) enabling residents to compost organic materials at VINES’ community gardens, 3) establishing a larger-scale, centralized in-vessel composting site at BUF.
· Construct and maintain composting bins at community garden with the support of youth employees and community volunteers.
· Oversee design and construction of the centralized in-vessel composting site at BUF in coordination with technical experts, contractors, youth employees and volunteers.
· Administer the program database (Salesforce) to track program member information, manage member communications, record compost inputs and outputs as well as temps/humidity by site, track volunteer hours, generate reports, and oversee program application processing.
· Recruit and assign volunteers to support Community Composting efforts as well as organize and oversee volunteer workdays.
· Keep inventory of and purchases community compost supplies (i.e. tools, bin construction materials, etc.) as needed, with oversite from the Community Garden Manager.
· Conduct outreach to engage community members in VINES’ Composting Program, including but not limited to: tabling at events, presenting to community and university groups, door to door outreach.
· Develop trainings to support VINES’ youth employees and volunteers in both their duties related to compost efforts and community outreach.
· Collaborate with partner agencies, i.e. Cornell Cooperative Extension, to coordinate composting efforts and education to maximize community impact.
· Assist with holding Green Thumb Workshops on the topic of waste reduction and composting workshops, including leading workshops, scheduling and coordinating with outside presenters.
· Work with the Executive and Operations Directors to research, identify, and develop foundation and government grant proposals to support the Program and complete grant reporting.
· Contribute to social media presence and website updates on a regular basis.
· Establish connections in the community with businesses and local agencies to support and deliver ongoing quality programming.
· Maintain administrative thoroughness by updating and maintaining documentation on all Program procedures, policies, and internal filing systems.
· Drive program evaluation by continuously tracking program outcomes and evaluating impact against established goals.
· Represent VINES professionally to the public, community groups, and local agencies.
· Report quantitative and qualitative data on a monthly basis to the VINES Board of Directors.
· Manage other special projects as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
· Strong leadership and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize tasks for self and others.
· Advanced computer and analytic skills, including substantial experience with or comfort with learning database use and management (e.g., Salesforce).
· Proficiency using Google Workspace (Chrome, Sheets, Docs, Forms), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher), social media, website content management, and email platforms.

· Connection or familiarity with the Binghamton community or similar demographic.
· Ability/willingness to participate in physical labor in all weather conditions.
· Commitment to excellence, efficient work practices, and pride in a job well done.
Job Requirements
· Valid driver's license and clean driving record
· Experience driving large vehicles or comfort in learning how to.
· Able to work occasional weekends and evenings.
· Must be physically fit, able to lift 40 pounds, and willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
