What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: Social Media Strategy and Digital Outreach Toolkit Design position at Volunteers for Democracy's Future?
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.
Volunteers for Democracy's Future (V4DF) is building a long-term national civic engagement movement focused on strengthening democratic institutions, constitutional governance, and public accountability. We are seeking a skilled communications and digital marketing volunteer to help us develop a professional, scalable social media and digital outreach strategy that will increase public awareness, expand our volunteer and donor base, and amplify our educational content. The project includes developing a content strategy, editorial calendar, posting workflow, branding guidelines, graphic templates, and recommendations for efficiently managing multiple social media platforms using tools such as Buffer and Canva. The volunteer's work will provide the foundation for a sustainable communications program that can be implemented by future volunteers and staff as the organization grows.
V4DF was founded on the belief that democracy depends on informed, engaged citizens and accountable public institutions. Our mission is to strengthen civic engagement by educating, connecting, and mobilizing Americans around the constitutional principles and democratic guardrails that protect our republic. Effective communication is essential to that mission. By improving our digital outreach strategy and expanding our ability to communicate consistently across multiple platforms, this project will help us reach more citizens, recruit more volunteers, engage more supporters, and encourage constructive participation in the democratic process. The systems and strategies developed through this project will continue to support V4DF's mission long after the volunteer engagement is complete, helping us build a durable nationwide movement dedicated to preserving and strengthening American democracy.
We recognize that skilled volunteers achieve the greatest impact when they have clear objectives, timely feedback, and access to the information they need. To support this project, V4DF will provide background materials, existing branding and messaging, strategic goals, target audiences, and examples of current communications. We will designate a single point of contact, respond promptly to questions, participate in scheduled check-ins, and make decisions quickly so the project can move forward without unnecessary delays. We will also provide constructive feedback throughout the engagement while giving the volunteer the flexibility to apply their professional expertise. Our goal is to create a collaborative partnership that respects the volunteer's time and results in practical tools that V4DF can implement immediately and build upon over the long term.
