What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Tech I position at VOLUNTARY PURCHASING GROUPS INC?
Safely perform basic maintenance tasks while building foundational skills in shop practices, tool use, equipment operation, and housekeeping standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on facility, office areas, and production equipment under the direction and guidance of an MT‑III, or Supervisor.
- Supports production equipment changeover when required.
- Complete basic mechanical tasks such as belt replacements, lubrication, and fastener installation.
- Prepare work areas by cleaning and clearing equipment sections before beginning repairs.
- Maintain personal and company tools by cleaning them after use and returning all tools, parts, and equipment to the correct storage locations.
- Follow end‑of‑job cleanup standards, ensuring equipment and work areas are left in better condition than when work began.
- Keep maintenance workspaces, shop areas, and storage locations clean and always organized.
- Follow chemical handling procedures, storage, disposal and required PPE usage.
- Record basic information on Work Orders, PM checklists, and repair logs, including symptoms, troubleshooting steps performed, and parts used.
- Demonstrates professionalism, respect, and courtesy when interacting with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
Expectations for Cleanliness & Organization
- Keeps tools clean, dry, and stored correctly.
- Does not leave parts, fasteners, or materials in production areas or shop table.
- Reports damaged or missing tools.
- Works under guidance or independently depending on the complexity of the task.
