What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at Volumetric Technologies?
Mechanical Engineer - Custom Automation Equipment
VOLUMETRIC TECHNOLOGIES | Red Wing, Minnesota | Full-time | On-site
Position Overview
At Volumetric Technologies, engineering goes beyond the CAD model. We design and manufacture custom filling machinery, and our engineers work alongside the build team to turn designs into functioning equipment. We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks skills and 2 to 5 years of experience who enjoys practical problem-solving, machine building, testing, and seeing a project through to installation.
Key Responsibilities
• Design custom machinery in SolidWorks, developing 3D parts and assemblies, detailed manufacturing drawings, and prints that meet project specifications and engineering standards.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation and bills of materials (BOMs); support component procurement and purchasing activities.
• Work directly with manufacturing during machine assembly and fit-up, helping resolve mechanical design and build issues on the shop floor.
• Participate in machine testing and troubleshooting; identify root causes, make practical design improvements, and help verify equipment performance.
• Coordinate with customers, engineering, sales, operations, and service to support projects from machine order through installation.
• Estimate and manage assigned engineering work to support project schedules and budgets; provide technical support to sales and service teams.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, machine design, or applications engineering.
• Strong, hands-on SolidWorks proficiency in 3D part modeling, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, machine fabrication, and manufacturing or assembly processes.
• Willingness and ability to be directly involved with machine build, fit-up, testing, and troubleshooting - not solely desk-based design.
• Sound technical judgment, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, communication skills, and a collaborative, self-directed approach.
Compensation, Benefits & Schedule
Market competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; health savings account; 401(k) with company match; and paid time off. This is a full-time, on-site position in Red Wing, Minnesota, with a Monday-Friday, eight-hour schedule.
