The Local Store: Retail Sales Associate & Front Desk

The Local Store is a high-energy and fun place to work, where you can meet hundreds of locals who love this community, and visitors from all over the world who come to learn what makes Eau Claire great! Be part of not only the retail operation day-to-day, but also many fantastic events both in-store and in the community, and serve as an upbeat front desk rep for the office of Volume One.

Successful applicants must enjoy a multi-faceted environment & effective communication with customers and co-workers. This position requires basic retail tasks (cash handling, pricing, stocking, etc.) but also doubles as the front-desk attendant for Volume One's general business activities, which requires greeting and helping visitors, answering phones, and generally portraying a professional and positive attitude. This means you also get to frequently meet clients and community members who are featured in the pages of our publications.

Previous retail experience is preferred as well as a flexible schedule. The best candidates should be knowledgeable about the local community, as well as about V1's products, services, and events. Pay starts at $13/hr alongside other offerings such as family gym memberships, walk/bike to work stipends, store discounts, and occasional free perks (meals, gift cards, etc.).

Local Store Staff also seasonally work with guests renting e-bikes from our small in-house bike rental operation that launched from the back of the Local Store in May of 2023. A full training on this (and a few training bike rides!) will be part of your orientation. While most guests will reserve e-bikes online, you may also take reservations over the phone or in person, check in renters, talk to them about popular routes and fun places to ride, show them to their e-bike and helmets, discuss how the e-bikes work, and send them on their adventure. You'll also accept bike returns when they are done.

Local Store staff plays a role in the new Chippewa River Trolley tours operating out of the Local Store that started in the summer of 2023. Staff will be knowledgeable about the tours as to sell tickets to them in person or over the phone (though most will be bought online), welcome tour riders to their tour, and offer them anything they may need before the tour begins, or when they return. The tours will operate seasonally and at special times of the year.
