Core Responsibilities
- Relay Configuration & Programming: Configure protection relays based on functional logic diagrams, relay setting calculations, and coordination studies.
- Testing & Commissioning: Execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT). Use industry-standard tools (e.g., Omicron, Doble) for relay testing and field troubleshooting.
- System Design: Design AC/DC schematics, logic diagrams, and protection/control panels for substation systems.
- Fault Analysis: Analyze disturbance waveforms, fault recordings, and sequence-of-events records to assess equipment condition after a grid fault.
- Integration: Work with communication network technologies and protocols (IEC61850, DNP3, Modbus) to integrate relays into Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and SCADA.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Experience: Typically (5-10) years of direct experience in HV/MV power system protection and control design or field commissioning.
- Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with protective relay software (e.g., DIGSI, Protection Suite) and hardware (Siemens, SEL, GE).
- Licensure: A Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred.
- Travel: Varies by role; design roles typically require minimal travel (approx 5%), while field service roles can require extensive U.S.-wide travel
