What are the responsibilities and job description for the Founding Mechanical Engineer position at Voltair?
Build the exoskeleton for a drone that routinely lands on 500kV.
We build drones that recharge on power lines. The grid is everywhere. This allows our drones to collect spatial data anywhere. Think: unlimited range drones.
Today, Voltair operates as a full-stack inspection service for power utilities.

- Half the team runs field operations: driving trucks, flying drones, coordinating inspections, and selling the service.
- The other half builds the drone hardware and autonomy software that make this possible.
- Faraday Cage Design machined aluminum components to shield avionics from 20kV/m electric fields.
- Dynamics Integrate the aluminum faraday cage with CF components and perform resonant analysis of the structure.
- Landing Mechanism Contribute to the development the clamping mechanism that enables Voltair’s drones to reliably perch and charge on on power lines. Test for reliability.
- Destructive Testing Crash drones and quantify battery puncture hazards. Expose drones 1M volts.
- Design for Manufacturing
- FEA
- CAD (Solidworks/Oneshape)
- Reliability Testing
