We are seeking an experienced Bridge & Tunnel Section Manager to lead and expand our engineering practice in Colorado and across the West Region. This role is a blend of business development - winning strategic work with DOTs, municipalities, and other agencies - and operations - delivering high-quality projects, building teams, and ensuring client satisfaction.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have at minimum PE in CO, 15 years of progressive transportation/bridge/tunnel experience, and 10 years of experience working with CDOT.
What you'll be doing:
* Practice Leadership & Growth
- Serve as a practice builder by developing and expanding bridge, tunnel, and structural services across multiple markets.
- Establish and grow client relationships with CDOT and other DOTs, municipalities, and transportation agencies.
- Lead pursuits, including proposal development, contract negotiations, and interview presentations.
* Client & Project Leadership
- Serve as Principal-in-Charge/Project Manager on major projects.
- Oversee execution of projects to ensure technical quality, schedule, and budget performance.
- Act as the lead point of contact for client and contract management.
* Team Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing staff to support growth of the practice.
- Create a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and accountability.
- Develop future leaders within the section to ensure long-term success.
* Operational & Financial Oversight
- Manage project work planning, delivery, and financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and client requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and deliver presentations to clients and industry groups.
What you need to have:
- Colorado PE License (required).
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in bridge, tunnel, and transportation infrastructure.
- At least 10 years of direct experience working with CDOT; additional DOT/municipal experience in CO or UT preferred.
- Ability to win and deliver small to large-scale DOT projects through traditional and alternative delivery procurement methods.
- Strong leadership, client relationships, and team development skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
- If applicable to the position, a post offer fit for duty evaluation to ensure the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the role
- Valid driver's license
- A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
