Project Designer

Reports To: Vice President of Architecture
Location: Wilmette, Illinois or Chattanooga, Tennessee

About the Role

Are you a passionate emerging designer ready to grow within a nationally respected design-build team?

Our Client is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Project Designer to help bring clients’ visions to life. This junior-level role is perfect for someone eager to learn the entire design-build process—from concept through construction—while contributing meaningfully to the design of high-end custom homes.

You’ll collaborate with senior architects, construction, and purchasing professionals to turn ideas into beautifully detailed, buildable homes that reflect Our Client’s signature standard of craftsmanship and care.

If you’re ready to expand your architectural career and design skills in a supportive, mentorship-driven environment, apply today!

What You’ll Do

  • Support senior design staff throughout all phases of the architectural process: schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.

  • Attend and participate in client meetings—taking detailed notes, observing presentation methods, and learning how to communicate design intent effectively.

  • Produce detailed CAD drawings, 3D models, and renderings, contributing to comprehensive construction document sets.

  • Pick up and incorporate redlines and revisions from senior architects accurately and efficiently, remaining open to feedback and coaching.

  • Assist in coordinating consultant drawings (structural, landscape, civil, interiors) with architectural documents.

  • Collaborate closely with construction and purchasing teams to align design intent, budget, and constructability.

  • Manage and track all permit and regulatory acquisition activities: preparing submittal packages, completing applications, tracking review status, and coordinating with municipal officials.

  • Ensure drawing accuracy, quality, and adherence to firm standards and applicable codes.

  • Receive hands-on mentorship from senior architects and exposure to the full design-build lifecycle.

What You’ll Bring

The Project Designer role is designed for an emerging professional ready to build upon a solid foundation in high-end residential design.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from a NAAB-accredited program.

  • 1–3 years of professional experience in custom residential architecture.

  • Strong design and graphic ability with an understanding of all phases of the architectural process.

  • Proficiency in CAD and supporting design software (Graphisoft ArchiCAD & Twinmotion experience preferred).

  • Familiarity with AI tools and their application in visualization or workflow optimization is a plus.

  • Basic understanding of construction methods and residential building codes.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow within a collaborative studio environment.

  • Professionalism, accountability, and sound judgment while taking ownership of responsibilities.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining precision and composure.

  • Dedication to continuous learning, licensure preparation, and professional growth.

Software & Tools

  • ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Twinmotion

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

  • 3D rendering or modeling software

  • Familiarity with AI-based design visualization tools (preferred)

Compensation
