The Senior Labor Relations Officer serves as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert in labor relations, responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategies that align with WMATA’s organizational goals and foster productive labor-management relationships. This role ensures that all labor relations initiatives support a fair, equitable, and high-performing workplace while maintaining full compliance with collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws.
Key responsibilities include leading the development of labor relations strategies, frameworks, and best practices that anticipate and address organizational needs. The Senior Labor Relations Officer participates as a key member of major committees, such as the Reduction in Force (RIF), ADA Accommodation, Religious Accommodation, and Joint Labor/Management Committees, providing expert guidance and facilitating collaboration between management and represented employees.
This role may involve conducting and managing complex labor negotiations, developing management proposals, and assisting in shaping the organization’s overall labor relations strategy. The position requires strong analytical, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to navigate sensitive issues, maintain constructive union partnerships, and advance WMATA’s mission through proactive and strategic labor-management engagement.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, and have passed the Bar Exam.
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible technical, administrative, and analytical experience in labor relations, including grievance handling and arbitration (prep and presentation), negotiations, and the administration of negotiated labor agreements.
