The Drug & Alcohol Compliance Support Technician is responsible for supporting the Medical Services Branch in the administration and documentation of regulatory drug and alcohol testing, ensuring strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and WMATA standards. This role plays a vital part in safeguarding workplace safety by maintaining the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of all testing procedures and records.
Key responsibilities include maintaining the confidentiality of all applicant and employee files, medical records, and testing information. The technician prepares individuals for medical evaluations and diagnostic tests, including venipuncture collections, hearing and vision assessments, pulmonary function testing (spirometry), electrocardiograms (EKGs), X-rays, and stress tests.
The role also includes performing and documenting federally regulated drug and alcohol testing procedures in accordance with DOT and WMATA policies. This involves verifying equipment cleanliness and functionality, ensuring all testing supplies and forms are available, and maintaining Level D BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) certification. The technician is responsible for ensuring examination and collection areas are properly stocked, sanitized, and prepared before each procedure.
This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to regulatory protocols, and a high degree of professionalism when interacting with applicants and employees. The Drug & Alcohol Compliance Support Technician ensures the integrity of testing, operational readiness, and consistency of compliance across all Medical Services Branch operations.
Requirements
Applied Science Degree from a CAAHEP-accredited college program; Associate's Degree in Allied Health Sciences.
Three (3) years of experience in a hospital/medical setting is required. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of post-high school education in allied health science courses and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a medical technician in a hospital setting is required. A minimal Level D BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) certification is also required.
