The Employment Support Specialist provides job skills training and support while also helping indivduals build the soft skills needed for success in the workplace. This role focuses on promoting independence, productivity, and personal growth through structured work activities and skill development opportunities. The Employment Support Specialist will assist with the development and implementation of training programs, assessing training needs, and evaluating the effectiveness of training.
Responsibilities:
- Assess each individual’s training and support needs through observation, data collection, and collaboration with management.
-Develop and implement individualized and group educational plans and programs to address identified training needs, focusing on job-specific tasks and soft skill development.
-Provide ongoing instruction, coaching, and reinforcement to support skill acquisition, monitor progress, and adjust training strategies as needed to promote growth, independence, and successful work performance.
-Ensure compliance with procedures and safety regulations
-Provide accurate and complete documentation in accordance with VSI policies and procedures.
-Summarizes data and reports individual progress as well as program results.
-Assists employees in modifying attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing self-awareness, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and helping them develop appropriate problem-solving skills as applicable.
-Promote community membership by connecting individuals with relevant community services and resources, providing information, guidance, and support to help them access and participate in opportunities that enhance independence and quality of life.
-Manages difficult or emotional situations, responds quickly to employee needs, and focuses on solving conflict.
-Implements behavior management techniques and problem-solving strategies as specified in the employees’ service delivery plans.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Experience in para education, direct care, retail, food service, maintenance, or production is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Experience in training development and implementation
- Proficient in interviewing, recruiting, and mentoring technique
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
