What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Services Assistant position at VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER INC?
Classification: Non-exempt; Hourly position
Reports to: Day Services Supervisor
Position Summary: Assist consumers with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day program setting. Implement consumer treatment plan to enable maximum independence, involvement, and success in the community. Assist consumers with personal care needs (toileting, feeding, etc.) as required. Help consumers gain knowledge and confidence in interpersonal relationships, daily living, nutrition, health, safety and access to community resources and activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- High school or equivalent diploma
- Satisfactory driving record (no more than three moving violations in the most recent 36-month period)
- Valid driver’s license appropriate for vehicle type being required to operate
- Medication Manager/Aide, CPR/AED/First Aid, Mandatory Reporter, and The Mandt System® certification (must be obtained within a 90-day period from date of hire)
- No convictions for abuse, molestation, theft, burglary, robbery, assault, rape and other crimes against another person or property judged to be job-related
- No founded reports of abuse of a dependent person
- Not actively using illegal substances
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist consumers, as necessary, to and from physical therapy tables and out of automobiles, wheelchairs and lavatories while keeping an accurate and complete daily log of actions
- Assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, hygiene, etc.) for consumers as needed
- Administer prescribed medication written under direction of physician
- Assist with activities of daily living
- Assist with community access as required
- Assist consumers with participation on life enrichment activities
- Provide general supervision and guidance to consumers
- Maintain complete and accurate client charting
- Maintain records of services performed and of apparent condition of consumers
- Perform training and appropriate modeling of daily practices
- Role model appropriate behaviors for consumers
- Attend Individual Support Plan (ISP) and/or Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings as required
- Regular and punctual attendance during scheduled hours is essential
Physical Demands: Requires full range of motion including walking, climbing or balancing, bending, twisting, kneeling, lifting, reaching, stooping and stretching. Ability to lift and move (push, pull, etc.) a minimum of 50 pounds. May be required to transfer and/or support consumers with mobility needs.
Working Environment: This job operates in a day rehabilitation program environment assisting consumers with developmental and physical disabilities. Noise level in work environment is usually moderate to loud. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases. May require transport of consumers served utilizing organization vehicle. May require travel to other Vodec locations, community business sites or community events.
