What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic position at VM Buyer LLC?
Maintenance Mechanic
- Work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries following MSHA rules and policies that apply.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment such as Respirator, hard hat, safety toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, face shield and other items as required.
- Confirms proper PPE is used, proper safety procedures are followed, Lock Out Tag Out is completed, and barricades are in place before work begins.
- Uses the proper hand and power tools to complete job tasks.
- Works in teams to complete assignments to minimize downtime.
- Acquires necessary training and licenses to operate forklift, man lift, boom truck, and other equipment as needed.
- Completes hot work tasks by acting as a fire watch, barricading access, fire control, and checking air quality as assigned.
- Completes confined space permit tasks by setting up ventilation fans, monitoring air quality, and performing entrant and attendant duties as assigned.
- Uses practical knowledge to install components such as pumps, compressors, drives, gear boxes, conveyors, hydraulic components, piping, and valves.
- Performs Preventive Maintenance tasks by following PM check sheet and signing off to indicate tasks have been completed, forwards to supervisor for review.
- Utilizes consumable supplies during repair activities in a cost-effective manner.
- Inspects hydraulic systems including checking oil levels, possible system leaks and reports concerns to supervisor to schedule repairs.
- Troubleshooting using established methods to isolate concerns, and then uses proper repair techniques and best practices to complete the repair.
- Performs housekeeping duties as assigned. Cleans area prior to job completion, sign off on work order indicating area is clean.
- Uses schematics, diagrams, repair manuals, and blueprints to locate and repair equipment.
- Assists electricians, welders, operators, engineers, and others to complete assigned tasks.
- Assists in fabricating and repair of metal components using cutting torch and welding equipment.
- Assists in rigging equipment and components for removal and installation by following proper rigging techniques.
- Conducts Pre-shift inspections of vehicles and mobile equipment before using the equipment.
- Completes Work Area Examination forms and corrects or reports deficiencies.
- Creates Work Requests for deficiencies noted during PM or found while performing other repairs.
- Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, along with high school or postsecondary courses in mechanical drawing/blueprint reading; industrial, fabrication and welding.
- Must be available to work overtime and also be available for off shift call in as needed.
