Role Summary
The QA/QC Coordinator plays a critical role in the safe and compliant receipt, inspection, documentation, and identification of incoming waste materials. This position is responsible for verifying that all incoming materials conform to approved waste profiles, acceptance criteria, and compatibility requirements before they are managed on-site. Through inspections, sampling, testing, and documentation, the QA/QC Coordinator ensures materials are accurately identified and processed in accordance with the facility's approved Mix Matrix, company procedures, and all applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with Operations, Transportation, and Customer Service, the QA/QC Coordinator supports safe facility operations by identifying non-conforming materials, maintaining accurate records, ensuring proper waste handling and processing, and driving continuous improvement to enhance operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.
Essential Responsibilities
- Inspect, identify, and verify incoming waste materials to ensure compliance with approved waste profiles, acceptance criteria, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform sampling and testing of incoming materials to verify waste characterization, compatibility, and contamination levels.
- Ensure materials are processed in accordance with the approved Mix Matrix and applicable treatment procedures.
- Document inspection findings, sampling results, and QA/QC activities while maintaining accurate records for regulatory compliance and audits.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain QA/QC testing equipment, including pH meters, 5-gas meters, and other analytical instruments.
- Identify non-conforming materials, quality concerns, and process inefficiencies, recommending and supporting corrective actions.
- Prepare QA/QC reports and communicate inspection results, trends, and recommendations to management and operations personnel.
- Collaborate with Operations to improve inspection processes, waste handling practices, and overall operational efficiency.
- Operate the facility scale and assist with waste receiving activities as needed.
- Operate forklifts, loaders, or other equipment as necessary to support QA/QC and facility operations.
- Conduct routine inspections of QA/QC equipment to ensure proper operation and report maintenance needs.
- Ensure compliance with all EPA, OSHA, DOT, RCRA, company policies, and other applicable environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE use, hazardous material handling, and emergency response protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned including Operator duties as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One (1) or more years of experience in waste management, environmental services, QA/QC, industrial operations, or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and computerized data entry systems.
- Experience operating forklifts and heavy equipment or the ability to become qualified.
- Familiarity with pH meters, 5-gas meters, environmental sampling techniques, and QA/QC testing equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of waste profiling, waste compatibility, and waste acceptance practices is preferred.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to identify quality issues, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in both office and industrial environments, including standing, walking, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safely work around industrial equipment and hazardous materials.
