Job Title: Epidemiologist

Location: Nashville, TN/Hybrid role
Employment Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate the Overdose Working Group, including:
• Organizing and leading monthly meetings.
• Structuring meetings to include data trends, expert presentations, and partner updates.
• Coordinating subject matter expert presentations on overdose-related research and evidence-based interventions.
• Develop and implement new surveillance tools to support overdose response efforts, including:
• Creating monthly analytic briefs highlighting linked data, emerging substances, and trends among marginalized communities.
• Designing interactive dashboards and visualizations to enhance accessibility and interpretation of overdose data.
• Expand the working group s reach and engagement, including:
• Increasing participation from regional epidemiologists and local health partners.
• Working with OIA s Data Governance (DG) team to determine how internal data trends can be aggregated and shared publicly.
• Support the planning and execution of an annual in-person working group meeting, which will include:
• Partner updates, success stories, and program spotlights.
• Evaluation of the working group s impact and overdose data utility.
• Coordinating travel for Hal Rogers working group participants.
• Provide timely data analysis and visualization support to TDH leadership, program staff, and external partners.
• Document processes and methodologies to ensure reproducibility and transparency.

Education & Experience Requirements:

The preferred candidate will have an MPH or PhD with significant experience in public health, overdose surveillance, or health data analysis. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate:

• Proficiency in R or SAS (SQL experience preferred).
• Proficiency in a data visualization software, such as Tableau or R.
• Experience working with large datasets and developing analytic briefs.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
• Experience facilitating meetings, coordinating stakeholders, and engaging multidisciplinary partners.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
