This role will work closely with TDH’s Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Program and the Chronic Disease Section to create impactful content for Tennesseans and advance the mission of improving community health statewide.

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with excellent writing skills, creative thinking, and the ability to translate complex public health information into accessible messaging for diverse audiences. • Create and maintain content that meets digital accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG 2.1 AA and Revised Section 508).
  • Support the planning, development, and execution of public health and marketing campaigns, including messaging, creative concepting, deliverables tracking, and timeline management.
  • Assist with media placement logistics: coordinate with vendors, research appropriate channels, manage campaign deliverables, and ensure accurate distribution of assets.
  • Monitor and track campaign performance; support data reporting and strategy adjustments to increase reach and impact.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, subject matter experts, and community partners to produce accurate, inclusive, and culturally sensitive communications.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in communications, ideally within public health, nonprofit, or government environments

  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to meet deadlines in a hybrid or remote setting
  • Cultural competency and understanding of inclusive communication practices
  • Current residence in Tennessee

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA / Section 508)
  • Experience supporting health-focused outreach or behavior-change campaigns
  • Knowledge of campaign analytics, tracking, and reporting

Portfolio Requirements

Candidates must include a virtual portfolio containing:

  • 2–3 writing samples (articles, campaign content, newsletters, storytelling pieces)
  • 3–5 design samples (social graphics, infographics, layouts, campaign materials)
