🚀 Senior Mechanical Engineer – Aviation | Melbourne, Florida 🚀

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a global leader in satellite communications and aviation connectivity at its engineering operation in Melbourne, Florida.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering position focused on the design, development, integration and qualification of mechanical hardware for commercial aviation systems.

We’re specifically looking for an engineer with strong experience developing avionics Line-Replaceable Units (LRUs) and taking products through the complete engineering lifecycle — from initial concept and requirements through detailed mechanical design, prototyping, environmental qualification, certification support and ultimately production.

A major focus of this search is commercial aircraft Line Fit.

The successful engineer will ideally have experience developing hardware for Boeing and/or Airbus platforms and understand the additional engineering, documentation, qualification and design requirements associated with delivering equipment directly into an aircraft OEM Line Fit programme.

You’ll work closely with electrical, RF, systems, manufacturing, quality and certification teams to develop robust mechanical solutions for complex electronics and connectivity hardware.

Key areas of experience we’re looking for include:

✈️ Mechanical design and development of avionics LRUs

✈️ Commercial aircraft hardware development

✈️ Boeing and/or Airbus programmes

✈️ Boeing Line Fit experience highly desirable

✈️ Line Fit and retrofit product development

✈️ DO-160 environmental qualification and testing

✈️ Electronics and avionics packaging

✈️ Thermal management and structural/mechanical analysis

✈️ Creo / ProE mechanical design experience

✈️ GD&T, tolerance analysis and detailed engineering drawings

✈️ Design for Manufacturing / Assembly (DFM/DFA)

✈️ Prototype development, verification and qualification testing

✈️ Supporting technical and customer design reviews

✈️ Transitioning designs into manufacturing and production

Experience within IFEC, satellite connectivity, aircraft communications or other complex airborne electronics would be particularly valuable.

This isn’t simply a CAD design position.

Our client is looking for an experienced engineer who can take genuine technical ownership of a product, make engineering decisions independently and drive mechanical designs forward without requiring constant direction.

You should be comfortable working from relatively high-level requirements, developing the mechanical solution, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, resolving issues during prototype and qualification testing, and ultimately helping deliver a production-ready aviation product.
