Fuel Delivery Truck Driver

Position Summary:

The Fuel Delivery Truck Driver reports directly to the Terminal Manager and is responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, transportation and delivery of fuel from Vitus' terminal location to various customer locations. 

This position requires a combination of skills and licensing, including but not limited to: Alaska Class A commercial driver license (CDL) with an X endorsement; mechanical aptitude to perform routine equipment maintenance; customer service skills to serve customers in a positive, professional and ethical manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.

This is non-overtime exempt position that will pay 1.5 times the hourly wages for time worked in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week, in accordance with applicable Department of Labor requirements. 

Essential Job Functions:

• Deliver fuel to customers or other Vitus entities in a safe and timely manner
• Perform driver’s daily vehicle inspection report and record on proper company form and retain records as required by local, state, or federal regulations and company policy
• Maintain all driver related paperwork on a daily basis as directed by the Terminal Manager, local, state, or federal regulations or company policy
• Maintain daily delivery log
• Reconcile truck inventory and customer delivery activity on a daily basis
• Perform routine and/or minor maintenance on company equipment in accordance with company policy and all applicable local, state and federal regulations
• Climb bulk tank ladders to gauge fuel quantities, pull fuel samples and record fuel temperatures.
• Perform gross to net fuel inventory calculations
• Load fuel trucks at truck rack in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company procedures
• Perform bulk tank and truck spill containment water draws in accordance with company procedures
• Secure truck rack site and lock truck rack pumps, meters and any other equipment on site at the end of the day
• Maintain Alaska Class A CDL with X endorsement and all other requirements to perform driving duties as assigned
• Dispense and transport propane
• Assist with Vitus Marine vessel activity during the shipping season, as directed
• Provide assistance to Mechanics, as needed
• Observe and comply with all company safety policies and procedures
• Perform the job duties in a safe and sensible manner in accordance with all company policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma, or equivalent
• Two (2) years of related experience and/or training
• State of AK Class A CDL with X endorsement
• Clean driving record 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Mechanical aptitude to perform routine and/or minor maintenance on vehicles as needed
• Knowledge in preventative maintenance

• Microsoft Office skills; specifically, Outlook, Excel and Word
• Skilled with handling of Propane
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, company policy, etc.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages
• Ability to climb ladders and bend
• Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and written
• Ability to deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, maintain an attention to accuracy and detail

Education:

• High school diploma, or equivalent

(1 year of directly related work experience may qualify to substitute 1 year of education to meet the education requirement)

Required Training & Certificates:

• State of AK Class A CDL with X endorsement
• PERC Training, Preferred 
• Long Combination Vehicle (LCV) Certificate, preferred 
• Attends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
• Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Visual Acuity: must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and may require the use of ear protection. Work is usually done out-of-doors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, requiring the use of personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to; a reflective vest, steel toed boots, safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.
