The Scientist must adapt and apply typical particle size analysis for pharmaceutical products as well as more advanced solid-state characterization of spray dried particles and metal oxide coatings, often in cases where sample material is limited. This role reports to the Vice President of Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls, and will work closely with a team of scientists and engineers for training and study execution. This is a full-time position, located in Boulder, Colorado.

Description
Responsibilities and Duties:
- In-house subject matter expert for ALTA™ and spray dried particle characterization.
- Remains up to date on particle characterization techniques and manages testing by 3 parties (academic or CDMO).
- Recommends/specifies equipment for purchase that has high potential to address routine characterization or QC testing of ALTA™ products and intermediates.
- Supports the investigation of bulk material properties and surface chemistry towards the goal of understanding product performance.
- Independently designs, executes and authors reports summarizing material properties of ALTA™ particles, intermediates and processes.
- Supports investigations of ALTA™ manufacturing processes.
- Works closely with Formulation Development and Particle Engineering to establish product specifications and conduct stability studies.
- Supports Quality Control testing to support, in-process, product release, and stability testing.
- Contributes toward portions of IND or BLA eCTD module 2 and 3.
- Adheres to Company policies and laboratory notebook and safety guidelines.
- Must be able to perform the responsibilities and duties listed above.
- A PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, or related field with dissertation characterizing powder properties.
- An in-depth understanding of particle size analysis techniques.
- Experience in solid-state characterization, encompassing X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, among others.
- Experience with a variety of general analytical techniques (i.e. Karl Fisher, surface area analysis, SEM, pycnometry, ICP-MS, AAS, powder flowability and friability, etc.)
- Background working with lyophilized or spray dried pharmaceutical products, particularly with proteins, lipids, and/or mRNA lyophilization is a plus.
- Understanding of ICH Q6, Q8, Q9, Q10, and Quality by Design.
- Proficient in the use of statistical analysis methods and standard office tools like Excel and Word.

- Scientist: PhD in an academic program aligned with VitriVax needs – range $100,000 to $140,000 annual base (dependent on experience)
- Senior Scientist: PhD 5 years in an academic program aligned with VitriVax needs – range $130,000 to $160,000 annual base (dependent on experience)
