Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Correctional Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our healthcare team on a spot-offer basis. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care within a correctional facility, ensuring the safety and well-being of inmates while adhering to strict healthcare standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in various clinical settings, including acute care, long-term care, and specialized medical environments such as trauma centers or emergency departments. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and familiarity with HIPAA regulations are essential. Duties
- Conduct patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols.
- Perform IV infusions, catheterizations, and other advanced nursing procedures.
- Manage acute pain and assist with complex medical conditions such as infectious diseases, dementia, or trauma cases.
- Document all patient interactions and treatments accurately using EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Provide wound care, suture removal, and sterile processing as needed.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection, radiology procedures like sonography, and medical imaging review.
- Support discharge planning and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for post-acute or community-based care.
- Ensure infection control practices are maintained at all times and uphold HIPAA standards for patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in urgent care, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine environments.
- Work with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized dementia or Alzheimer's care.
Skills
- Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth; proficiency in ICD-9/10 coding is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to correctional health settings.
- Skilled in patient assessment techniques including vital signs measurement and physical examinations.
- Competent in medication administration including IV insertion/insertion techniques and phlebotomy.
- Experience working with diverse populations such as children (neonatal ventilators), seniors (geriatrics), or individuals with disabilities requiring specialized care like behavioral health or hospice services.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques necessary for sterile procedures.
- Capable of working independently under pressure while maintaining high standards of patient safety and confidentiality per NCQA standards.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams across inpatient or outpatient settings.
