Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Correctional Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our healthcare team in a correctional facility setting. Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs and physical examinations
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols
- Monitor and document patient conditions using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner
- Manage IV infusions and catheter care while adhering to aseptic techniques
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations, specimen collection, and processing
- Provide wound care, suture removal, and sterile dressing changes
- Support patients with chronic conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or pain management needs
- Educate patients on health management plans and discharge instructions
- Ensure infection control practices are maintained in accordance with HIPAA and NCQA standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, case managers, and specialists in areas like cardiology or infectious disease care
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
Skills
- Proven experience working in hospital settings such as Level I Trauma Centers or Level II trauma centers; ICU or emergency room experience highly preferred
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, or Athenahealth
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation procedures
- Skilled in medication administration, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and IV insertion/insertion techniques
- Ability to perform physical examinations and vital signs assessment accurately
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory care), behavioral health patients (behavioral health), or individuals with disabilities (developmental disabilities)
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques in sterile processing environments
- Excellent patient care skills combined with compassionate communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work independently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail in a correctional environment
