Phlebotomist Position Summary
A Phlebotomist performs laboratory services as ordered by a physician or qualified practitioner within the capabilities of the facility.
Phlebotomist Minimum Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent
Certified by professional organization in the state Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements Must have at least 1 year of experience as a phlebotomistAcute care experience preferredPHLEBOTOMIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags, and test tubes
Explain blood draw procedures with patients Verify patient information and labeling blood samples properlyAdheres to Universal Precaution procedures and established Infection Control procedures
Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills Is proficient with CPR and recognizes the need to implement it. Receive re-certification training annually Assists in cleaning, sterilizing, and securing equipment Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications
