Vitalant is seeking a Vice President of Emerging Technologies to accelerate our life-saving mission through strategic innovation. In this role, you will serve as a catalyst for transformative change—championing high-impact technologies, with a particular emphasis on AI, that strengthen our ability to deliver a safe and reliable blood supply to patients in need.
As a visionary and strategic partner to leaders across the organization, this executive will identify, evaluate, and advance disruptive technologies that simplify complex processes, enhance efficiency, and create meaningful new value. This includes shaping and executing Vitalant’s enterprise-wide emerging technology strategy to drive operational excellence, elevate the donor and customer experience, and support our continued leadership in the healthcare and blood services landscape.
This hybrid role is based at our National Headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ, with a schedule of three in-office days per week and two remote work-from-home days.
As the VP, Emerging Technologies, you'll get to:
- Provides visionary leadership to drive enterprise-wide innovation and align emerging technology initiatives with strategic goals.
- Leads the identification and implementation of innovation opportunities using emerging technologies—including AI—to enhance donor engagement, streamline operations, and support clinical outcomes.
- Scouts and evaluates transformative technologies and industry trends to identify strategic opportunities that advance donor care, healthcare delivery, and operational efficiency.
- Develops and executes a comprehensive AI roadmap focused on high-impact, ROI-positive initiatives.
- Advises senior leadership by embedding innovation into core business strategy and ensuring initiatives align with Vitalant’s mission and long-term vision.
- Champions the use of AI and digital tools to generate insights, improve donor experience, and optimize supply chain performance, while delegating technical execution to specialized teams.
- Facilitates cross-functional collaboration to ensure innovation initiatives are ethical, compliant, and seamlessly integrated into operational and clinical workflows.
- Builds and maintains strategic partnerships and innovation ecosystems to accelerate transformation and stay ahead of industry disruption.
- Defines governance models that enable responsible experimentation, ethical technology use, and scalable adoption across the organization.
- Leads and empowers a multidisciplinary innovation team focused on identifying opportunities, piloting solutions, and scaling high-value initiatives.
- Continuously monitors disruptive trends and regulatory changes, translating insights into strategies that position Vitalant as a leader in innovation.
Knowledge/ Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, Healthcare Technology, or related field required.
Master’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, or a relevant discipline strongly preferred.
Deep knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud platforms, and digital transformation strategies.
Familiarity with healthcare, life sciences, or blood donation industry regulations and compliance requirements (FDA, AABB, HIPAA, etc.).
Experience
10 years of progressive leadership experience in technology strategy, emerging technologies, or innovation management.
6 years leading large-scale AI or advanced analytics initiatives, ideally within healthcare, biotechnology, or donor-focused organizations.
Demonstrated success in building and implementing enterprise platforms or technology ecosystems.
Proven track record of fostering innovation, driving digital transformation, and achieving measurable business outcomes.
Experience managing cross-functional teams, vendors, and strategic partnerships.
