The Collaborating Medical Director will serve as the collaborating and supervising physician for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and provide clinical oversight, consultation, quality assurance, and medical guidance within Vital Health's behavioral health and substance use disorder programs. This contractor position plays a key role in supporting safe, compliant, and high quality psychiatric care while ensuring adherence to all applicable state and federal regulations, collaborative practice requirements, and organizational policies.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the collaborating/supervising physician for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in accordance with state laws, nursing board regulations, and organizational policies
- Be reasonably available by phone, telehealth, or other approved communication methods for clinical consultation and support regarding patient care and medication management needs
- Conduct routine chart reviews and clinical documentation audits to ensure quality of care, compliance, and adherence to regulatory standards
- Review medication management practices and provide guidance regarding prescribing standards, treatment planning, and controlled substance management
- Provide consultation for complex psychiatric cases, crisis situations, treatment resistant patients, medication concerns, and patients with significant psychiatric histories
- Support and mentor psychiatric providers through education, supervision, and clinical guidance
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives related to psychiatric and behavioral health services
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of psychiatric policies, clinical protocols, and standardized procedures
- Provide ongoing training and education related to psychiatric treatment, documentation standards, prescribing practices, risk management, and regulatory compliance
- Review and sign off on required physician documentation, collaborative agreements, medication related requirements, and additional clinical forms as necessary
- Collaborate with leadership and clinical staff to ensure safe, effective, and patient centered psychiatric services
- Participate in meetings with leadership, accreditation entities, licensing bodies, or regulatory agencies as requested
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality requirements, and all applicable state and federal healthcare regulations
- Support organizational readiness for audits, accreditation reviews, and payer requirements
- Perform additional consulting and medical oversight duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS
Minimum Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted M.D. or D.O. license in the State of Ohio
- Board Certified in Psychiatry preferred
- Active and unrestricted DEA registration
- Experience supervising or collaborating with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of psychiatric clinical practice experience preferred
- Experience working within behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment settings preferred
- Knowledge of outpatient psychiatry, medication assisted treatment, psychopharmacology, and behavioral health regulations
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes, chart audits, utilization review, and clinical compliance standards
- Strong communication, leadership, and consultation skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Maintain professional liability insurance coverage in accordance with organizational requirements
