Infusion Nurse

Job Overview

The Staff Nurse serves as a clinical resource to referral sources and community home health agencies regarding infusion therapies provided by the franchised pharmacy. In accordance with state licensure regulations, the Staff Nurse may provide direct patient care to infusion therapy patients. This role is responsible for assessing actual and potential patient care issues, as well as planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in coordination with the registered pharmacist. The Staff Nurse plays an active role in patient education and collaborates closely with pharmacy staff to coordinate patient scheduling, medication deliveries, and ongoing clinical assessments. The Infusion Nurse may also perform expanded clinical practices, provided all additional qualifications and competencies are met. This position reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer specialty intravenous infusions (including but not limited to immunoglobulins, Alpha-1 therapies, antibiotics, subcutaneous infusions, and monoclonal therapies) in both home settings and the infusion suite.
• Closely monitor patients during and after infusions for adverse reactions and respond appropriately.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and accurately document clinical findings.
• Educate patients and family members on treatment plans, medications, infusion processes, and ongoing health management.
• Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure the confidentiality of all patient information.
• Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems for clinical documentation and communication.
• Perform essential nursing procedures such as venipuncture, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and service delivery.

Requirements

• Required: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
• Required: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.
• Required: At least one (1) year of experience in acute care or alternate-site IV therapy.
• Required: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with physicians, employees, referral sources, and patients.
• Required: Ability to work independently and confidently manage adverse events.
• Preferred: Experience in PACU, ER, or acute care settings.
• Preferred: Home infusion and/or home health experience.

Qualifications

• Active RN license with no disciplinary action.
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and perform required clinical tasks.
