TITLE OF POSITION: PCA/HHA Educator/Trainer
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Guides, directs, and conducts training and development programs for PCA and HHA (when applicable) services, including in-services, mandatory annual orientation, and new hire orientation under the direction of the Manager of Orientation Staff Training and Quality Improvement.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager of Orientation Staff Training and Quality Improvement (Manager of Orientation)I. TRAINING JOB FUNCTIONS:1\. Under the direction of the Manager of Orientation, the PCA/HHA Educator will collaborate with Branch Managers and all nursing staff in providing coordinated training, orientation, and in-services for all PCA and HHA throughout VNHC.2\. Teaches classes and provides supervision of trainees during clinical training at least two weekends per month with connecting Fridays.3\. Assists the Manager of Orientation in developing the training curriculum based on DOH health-related vocational content materials to meet the needs of adult learners and assist them in successfully obtaining certifications as PCAs and HHAs.4\. Ensures PCA and HHA meet required annual mandatory in-service hours as set forth by NYS DOH and VNHC policy.5\. Provides initial and annual updates to nursing, PCA, and HHA6\. Ensures and verifies training records are incorporated into individuals electronic training files. Assists in the maintenance of appropriate certificates in the DOH HCS.7\. Orients professional and paraprofessional staff to agency policies and procedures, as necessary.8\. Promotes the mission of VNHC positively with all staff through the consistent exchange of information in a transparent and collaborative environment.9\. Any and all other duties as assigned or requested.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:A. DEXTERITY: Must have very good manual dexterity in demonstrating care. Must have keen hearing and good eyesight. Must be able to function adequately in an office such as managing office space and telephone. Must be able to drive a car in heavy traffic or on country roads in all kinds of weather, and manage within varied patient home environments, e.g. walk up broken steps, no electricity, and no plumbing.B. ACCURACY: Must be accurate in assessment of PCA and HHA in the home. Must be accurate in preparation and review of reports and evaluations. Must be detail-oriented and organized in order to handle multiple tasks at the same time.C. EXPERIENCE: Have two years of registered nursing experience, supervisory experience as a Community Health Nurse with prior education/training experience preferred. Should not be on the Office of Medicaid Inspector Generals (OMIG) list of Restricted, Terminated or Excluded Individuals or Entities or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector Generals list of Excluded Individuals/Entities.D. EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Is licensed and currently certified to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State.E. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:1\. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Mild to moderate physical activity, involving walking, standing, carrying, bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, sitting, and driving. Much sitting and deskwork. Requires writing, talking on telephone and leaning over a desk.2\. WORKING CONDITIONS: Occasional long distance travel to other offices in rural areas. In office, ventilated, lighted and temperature regulated area. Travel to agency Branch offices.3\. HAZARDS OR RISKS: In office, minimal. Must occasionally use own car for travel to other offices in rural areas.
