Key ResponsibilitiesComprehensive Patient Care & Case Management
Conduct mental health nursing assessments and monitor behavioral, emotional, and physical status of patients.
Implement individualized care plans in coordination with the interdisciplinary team.
Administer and monitor medications as prescribed, observing for side effects and therapeutic responses.
Provide evidence-based nursing interventions to manage acute psychiatric symptoms.
Recognize and respond promptly to crises, including agitation, suicidal ideation, or behavioral escalation, using appropriate interventions and de-escalation techniques.
Coordinate with providers and emergency services when higher levels of care are needed.
Educate families on behavioral health conditions, medication administration, and coping strategies.
Offer emotional support, guidance, and linkage to community resources to promote family resilience.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR in accordance with state and federal behavioral health regulations.
Ensure compliance with Medicaid/Medicare and other payer requirements for behavioral health nursing services.
Collaborate with social workers, therapists, case managers, and medical providers in an interdisciplinary team.
Participate in ongoing training to stay current on psychiatric nursing best practices, safety protocols, and community mental health trends.
Support quality improvement initiatives and uphold h/care's standards for excellence.

A Typical Day
As a Psychiatric Registered Nurse, your daily work will be dynamic and patient-centered, focusing on delivering high-quality behavioral health care in the home and community. Key activities include:
Patient Care & Assessments - Conduct psychiatric nursing assessments, monitor progress, and communicate changes in condition to the provider.
Medication Administration & Monitoring - Safely administer prescribed medications, assess responses, and provide patient and family education.
Crisis Intervention - Respond to urgent behavioral health needs, de-escalate crises, and implement safety plans.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration - Participate in team meetings with therapists, social workers, case managers, and medical providers to ensure coordinated care.
Family & Caregiver Support - Educate and support families in understanding treatment plans and managing patient behaviors.
Care Coordination - Assist with connecting patients to community resources, social services, and higher levels of care when appropriate.

Your Expertise
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Must have a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN-BC) strongly preferred.
Experience: 2 years of clinical experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, or related settings, with expertise in managing patients with mental health and co-occurring conditions.
Clinical Expertise: Skilled in psychiatric nursing assessment, medication administration, and evidence-based interventions to support emotional and behavioral stability.
Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of state and federal behavioral health regulations, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.
