Primary Care – Assistant Medical Director

Position Summary:
We are seeking a mission‑driven Primary Care – Assistant Medical Director to deliver high‑quality primary care and support clinical leadership across our VNACJ CHC sites. This full‑time position is primarily based at our Keyport, NJ location, and may occasionally support other CHC sites when urgent needs arise. In this role, you will help ensure reliable, evidence‑informed, patient‑centered care while fostering a collaborative, supportive environment for both patients and colleagues.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the total compensation range for this position is USD $200,000.00 to USD $$296,000.00. When determining an offer, VNACJ CHC considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's work experience, education/training, relevant skills, internal pay equity, and market and organizational conditions. The total compensation range reflects the total package, including base salary, overtime, bonuses, add-on incentives, special clinical compensation, retirement plans, and all other benefits. We are seeking a mission‑driven Primary Care – Assistant Medical Director to deliver high‑quality primary care and support clinical leadership across our VNACJ CHC sites. In this role, you will help ensure reliable, evidence‑informed, patient‑centered care while fostering a collaborative, supportive environment for both patients and colleagues.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Supports organization’s mission by striving for excellence in all aspects of their job with a focus on positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues up, down, and across the organization
- Promote the organization’s mission and foster positive, collaborative relationships across all teams
- Provide direct patient care for approximately 80% of work hours (4 days/week) and contribute 20% to administrative and clinical leadership activities
- Maintain an active primary care panel and model evidence‑informed, culturally responsive, patient‑centered care
- Serve as an EHR Superuser, supporting provider onboarding, workflow optimization, and documentation best practices
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including performance improvement plans and QI/QA activities
- Engage in chart audits and peer review processes, offering constructive feedback to support consistent, high‑quality care
- Lead efficient clinical and provider team meetings, including agenda development and follow‑up
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and Finance leadership to define, monitor, and achieve productivity standards
- Support HRSA Operational Site Visit preparation and ensure ongoing compliance with QRM, HRSA Health Center Program, and FTCA requirements
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders and help maintain a cohesive, high‑functioning provider team
- Graduate of an accredited medical school and residency program
- Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
- Active New Jersey medical license or eligibility for licensure
- Ability to obtain and maintain federal and state CDS registration
- 3–5 years of clinical practice experience, including ambulatory care; FQHC experience preferred
- Strong understanding of population health, quality metrics, and clinical analytics
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Bilingual English–Spanish preferred
- Proficiency with computers, data analysis, and Microsoft Office (including advanced Excel); nursing informatics background preferred
- Valid NJ driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
