Position Summary

The Director of Sales: Meetings & Groups, is responsible for leading and executing the destination’s group sales strategy to drive overnight visitation, economic impact, and market share. This role directly manages and sells to the Corporate, Association, and Government/Military segments while providing strategic oversight of Tour & Travel (domestic and international), Visitor Services, Visitor Center, construction market, local corporate market and meeting support functions. The Director of Sales serves as a key member of the leadership team, aligning sales initiatives with organizational goals and community stakeholders, including hotels, venues, and regional partners.

 

Key Performance Measures & Accountabilities

  •  Work with the executive team to develop the Visit Loudoun strategic plan and tactical execution.
  •  Create sales strategies that fall within Visit Loudoun’s overall strategic plan and mission.
  •  Create challenging goals for direct reports to maximize sales for Loudoun using historical data and

forecasting tools.

  •  Support sales & services team to achieve and/or exceed quarterly and annual goals.
  •  Host monthly Director of Sales meetings to keep the hotel industry informed about county data

and Visit Loudoun's efforts.

  •  Annual check-in with Loudoun hotel GMs & DOS to provide & gather information.


Key Responsibilities

  •  Identify needs for the county and strategize solutions.
  •  Provide the sales and services team with the tools to be successful.
  •  Participate in Executive level meetings.
  •  Attend and report monthly to the Visit Loudoun board of directors.
  •  Maintains knowledge of destination products and services through on-site visits and ongoing

communication.

  •  Evaluate the effectiveness of sales efforts utilizing reports from CRM.
  •  Assist in development of sales programs to educate members on issues, topics and latest trends

relating to meetings, sports, weddings or tour and travel markets for Visit Loudoun forums.

  •  Host weekly sales team meetings.
  •  Generate monthly sales report.
  •  Maintain excellent relationships with key industry stakeholders.
  •  Frequent travel required for trade shows, client meetings and sales missions.
  •  Provide strategic oversight of the Tour & Travel market, including domestic group tours and

international inbound visitation, to include partnerships with receptive operators and international

  representative firms.

  •  Ensure CRM (e.g., Simpleview CRM or similar) is effectively utilized for lead management,

reporting, and forecasting.

  •  Visitor Center Management support.
  •  Achieve and exceed annual goals for room nights, leads, bookings, and economic impact.

 Identify emerging trends and position Loudoun County competitively within the national capital

region and beyond.

  •  Be sales team support for client or industry presentations, client site visits, tradeshows, sales

missions or any other necessary sales function.

  •  Support and collaborate on local corporate engagement, construction, and meeting services.


Essential Work Experience

  •  A bachelor's degree is required; a degree in Business or a related field is preferred.
  •  Minimum 5-10 years of progressive sales leadership experience in a DMO/CVB and/or conference

hotel.

  •  Extensive sales and leadership capacity; solid understanding and experience in the development

and management of relationships across market segments.

  •  Experience in hotel and travel contracting.
  •  Knowledge of CRM and reporting.
  •  Ability to fill in for CEO or other Directors at stakeholder obligations.
  •  Perform public speaking to industry colleagues, client presentations, Visit Loudoun board, other

audiences as needed.

  •  Possess excellent communication, written, oral and grammatical skills.
  •  Demonstrated ability to convey a sense of urgency, openness to new ideas, inclusion & diversity,

 integrity, customer focus, and respect.
